We tried separate transfer threads a couple of years back, didn’t work as a lot got repeated on both threads.
    Easier just having the one.

Good for his development to hopefully get a decent bid from elsewhere when the season finishes for the young lad.,

    Obafemi and Long next please.

Why, when we’ve spent the last two months getting the depth in the squad that we were lacking last season would anyone actually want players departing in loans?

Yep I can see Obafemi and Long going out on loan, got a feeling Smallbone (if not injured) will also go out on loan.

The club had to take a £75m loan to help us through the pandemic so any savings on wages of players that will offer next to nothing are a good thing. Obafemi might contribute slightly but realistically Long is picking up a nice wage for training. Arma, Adams, Borja are our primary strikers and we then have Tella and Walcott to support.

Get rid of Obafemi, Valery and Long and either save the money or use their wages to bring in a 4th CM - our squad would instantly be improved.

Because realistically, those players are now too far down in the pecking order to get much game time, so it’s better if they go on loan. Obafemi and Long are now behind Adams, Armstrong, Broja, and Tella, and Ralph would probably play Redmond, Djenepo, or Walcott ahead of them.

In Valery’s case we have KWP and Livramento ahead of him, with Perraud and, eventually, Small on the left.

Who the hell does what they are told these days? You have to be argumentative, difficult and tell lies all the time.

Yes, don’t disagree. All works well if they are ‘in form’ up to about January when injuries and suspensions start to kick in. My post possibly also influenced by multiple Twitter users saying we should also loan out Walcott, Redmond, Ely and Djenepo…

The loan was taken out to ensure our transfer / wage budget was unaffected by COVID-19 so, for me, the only ground for loaning out would be if they are unhappy with their chances of first team football here.

It's a balancing act for sure. But we have KWP and Livramento ahead of Valery. Sure if one of those is injured he probably makes the bench. But he would likely have very very limited playing time if he stayed with us this season, at an important time in his development. He really needs to be playing games to improve.

Long isn't going to play for us if he stays, we really shouldn't have given him another contract but that's another story. Adams, AArmstrong, Broja, Tella, Djenepo, Walcott, Redmond are all ahead of Long. Same for Obafemi really too, though he might get in ahead of some of the winger/striker options. We made 9 changes in the cup and yet they still only made the bench and late sub appearances.

Even last season where we struggled badly for depth with less players and loads of injuries, we still didn't recall Long and loaned out Valery when we had no back up at RB and even with KWP out injured Ralph prefered to stick players out of position there. So there really is no point in keeping them around.

    ^^^ THIS 100%

Edit: General or Saints? I thought it started as Saints but seems to have become “general”? I can see arguments for both.

The loan was taken out to prevent us from being insolvent, which we would have been without the loan. Our transfer and wage budgets have been and will continue to be affected not only by COVID but by our general financial state, which is why our spending relative to sales is well down on previous years, and will almost definitely remain well down at the close of the window today.

As Ralph clearly doesn’t rate him as a defender, and we know have an abundance of RBs ahead of him, I wonder if he’s being seen as a lower order cover for Armstrong/Walcott et al on the right side. Still, he’s not earning that much and probably is not a significant factor in saving money.

Last year he was behind only KWP in his position and even with Walker-Peters unavailable, Val seemed so far from getting a game that it was absurd to think he’d be here this year!

Not what Semmens said. And there has been no suggestion we were close to insolvency. That is just laughable.

Hamza Choudhury looks like going to Newscastle on loan. I’d really like that one.:emoticon-0106-cryin

We had burned through most our cash; to remain solvent, our options were to either sell players en masse (harder than it might seem, as staged payments mean that you generally aren't getting all of that money up front), or take out a large loan at onerous terms. We did the latter. So, yes, we took out the loan to remain solvent. Absent one of those two routes, we would have run out of money, because the club has no other means to cover shortfalls at the time.

Honestly, have you ever read our accounts? They're all publicly available. 30 second snippets from fan forums are grand, but the actual numbers are right there.
