Agree about Butler, although he has been an excellent WK his performances with the bat have been poor. Bairstow will step in comfortably at WK and he has actually made some runs. Hopefully the end of the road for Curran. Would like to see Burns and Hameed really cement their places at the top of the order. I think Burns is a good player if slightly unorthodox. You don’t score a century against that New Zealand attack if you’re not cut out for Test cricket.
The wk/batsman is a strange one. You will often take the WK gloves away from someone and they become a better batsman and give the gloves to someone who is a good WK at country level and it makes them a worse batsman (batter!!). Bairstow is undoubtedly a good batsman as is Buttler. Bit of a catch 22?
I really like Sam Curran but I just don't see where he fit in the team. If his batting was better, he could be an ideal 4th seamer batting in the top order but I don't think that's ever going to happen. His bowing isn't threatening enough and he shouldn't be in the team on that alone
This one is at the Oval there is another at Old Trafford starting on Friday next week(i think). Its odd because the Oval test is normally the last
Woakes and Pope in for Curran and Buttler. England win the toss and bowl, here's hoping for a repeat of Headingley
What was the hold up with the batsman walking and the umpires finger shooting up? I've never seen a more blatant nick behind than that.
Decent start this morning. Let's get Kohli out and then really go to town on them. He likes to make his mouth go does Kohli when it's all going smoothly but keeps it shut when it goes against him - wonder if he's a mag......?
The Indians have form - do you remember Kohli refusing to walk after getting cleaned bowled by Moeen in the winter?
