I’m with you mate, absolutely blows my mind that you’d go to that effort for a fiver I guess if you were doing massive volume fair play but seems unlikely.
It's amazing when people say that the Mags are always lucky ... ... we beat them 6 in a row, they've been relegated twice, won nowt for 60 years and play awful football. And now their only real goal threat is crocked
I think they are a bit like Jason Vorhees in Friday the 13th. Just when you think they're knackered, they twitch back into life. Some examples:- Massive debts and looking like they're heading into the old 3rd division under Hall in the early 90s, but Keegan keeps them up and gets them promoted the next season. Massive debts under Shepherd but Ashley buys them before they wind up in administration (stupidly as if he did due diligence he'd have known what a mess they were in) Relagated under Ashley in 2009 but bounced back at the first attempt as they kept the team together, largely because no one wanted to buy the likes of Nolan. Having Liverpool ask "how much do you want for Andy Carroll", say £35 million and Liverpool go "OK, done" and pay up. (Greatest piece of daylight robbery since Dick Turpin). That said, karma is a bitch. For all the luck they get at times, it generally bites them (or at least nips them) on the arsea bit later. If they were REALLY lucky, they'd have won something by now. Instead, the dodgy financial stuff has HMRC investigating them, if they get relegated and don't bounce back straight away they'd probably go into meltdown and just slum about the championship for years doing nothing, they've no youth products of any real note coming through, have a ground that needs massively expensive renovation and maintenance work doing to it. I'm just hoping that after all the ****e we've went though in tje last 30 odd years that they experience it, and next time they look knackered they don't twitch back into life!
Ashley has tied the Mags up in knots. He's diverted the flak onto the PL by pretending to have engaged a team of lawyers to fight for the "regional regeneration and investment' they crave ... ... meanwhile he keeps Newcastle trundling along without it costing him a penny. He's an awful man but he's more cleverer than what he looks.
I’d love to know where this ‘regeneration’ was gonna happen. The city centre itself is absolutely saturated, there’s buildings gone up on every slither of land, mainly offices and student accommodation (landlords favourites..). Other side of the water is Gateshead, it’s own town with its own council, which has itself had billions chucked at it in the last 10 years or so, there’s very little to ‘regenerate’. Unless these Mag fans think the Saudis we’re gonna rebuild Benwell, Walker etc for the craic? I’ve scratched my head on this from the start, there’s nothing to regenerate that the Saudis could make money from.
