Earlier the better to be looking at contracts for such as Embleton , Neil , Winchester etc before higher league clubs start unsettling them by tapping them up , let’s get them tied down sooner rather than later so we will not lose them . The new management team seem ultra professional and hopefully recognise the players with potential that will already be on some clubs radars and should be proactive in getting them on to decent length contracts .
I'd definitely be looking at Embleton and Neil's contracts ASAP. The others can wait as we may be able to attract better if we go up. Saying that all the players have really upped their game.
Aye Neill and Embo I’d imagine we look at quickly anyway, they’ve gone from youth/reserve to first team so deserve an uplift. We will struggle to keep Neill soon enough in the same we we did with Henderson. Yes, we are low level, but his ability is natural and fluid and he will be spotted recalls sharp now he’s in the first team.
Gooch, Mcgeady, O'Brien, Flannigan and Ollie Younger are all out of contact at the end of this season as well as Embo. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/afc-sunderland/vertragsende/verein/289/vertragsendeJahr/2022
Think it will be interesting to see if O'Brien is offered a new deal seeing they were allowing him to go on loan to Doncaster. I think Flanagan, Gooch and McGeady may be offered new deals. McGeady probably a year but not sure about Younger with him not being able to get on the bench before the players we have on loan. Maybe offered a year or 2. Defintely need Embleton and Neil tied down to at least 4 year contracts IMO
I think Younger is a cracking player and needs to be tied down, as well as given more mins per game like the last 20 or so to start getting him used to the team mates
The point I was initially making has been backed by quite a few posters about the club being proactive in recognising the talents not only coming through our Academy but also through some astute transfer business . In the past we have been too slow in rewarding players and in a lot of cases ending up losing them , hopefully we now have a more knowledgeable Management team in place we will STOP this drain on our resources .
I think this may be McGeadys last season. Seems to be regressing somewhat and it's possibly age related
true but he'll be 36 in April. If we get promoted do you think he'll be able to cut it in the Championship? I have my doubts
He looked lighter and 'after the ball' at the weekend. Who knows about next season but I think he'll make a big difference in this one.
I read this before I went to bed and then actually dreamed that Neil was sold to Fulham for £950k ffs. Get him signed to a big contract please so that I can sleep in peace
