I agree. Supermarkets pick what they feel like not what you want.

I've gone the other way entirely at this point except for books.

I will pay a little extra to go local for small stuff and wont buy clothes online.

An extra fiver for a bill is not a huge burden if it's really local and not just the local branch of some billionaires business.

Books for me are an issue as the amazon price is half that of bookshops and there's no selection in them either. That said I buy one or two out of local newsagent cos they carry a small selection but will have a murder mystery or that.

My solution (if you can call it that) to the book issue is to always ask for books for presents, make where to buy them from someone else's problem :bandit:

    :)

    that certainly helps.

my favourite authors are us based. I actually have destroyed the planet ordering off amazon.com and getting a month long delivery. never ever had an issue. amazon shipped me books from new zealand once.

why? Its CHEAPER than ordering from amazon.co.uk and the big book chains don't carry them.

    I don't use kindles or e books.

I found Abe Books and Book Depository really good, both UK based.

I note with distain that the rewards for failure are quite good.

Liz truss the disastrous brexit performance has been rewarded with the plum job of Foreign secretary. if anything a promotion there.

Dominick raab who decided the sea was closed so he couldn't have just been swimming and ignoring the implosion in Afghanistan is rewarded with another top post as Justice Secretary. (WTF!!!) how can a guy who ****ed up totally be rewarded with power over the justice system? Its a demotion but still.

and of course Herr Patel retains here jack boot power over the home office. She'll be out shooting refugees this afternoon i suppose.

Suank is still in charge of taxing us more.

the rest? who cares, they didn't have enough dirt on boris.

Well, you can't have underlings being better than the top dog now can you? As Boris has set the bar so low don't expect any degree of competence from those below him.

Another annoying thing with supermarkets is they'll bring a new product in (talking groceries here) which you like and buy a few times and then they'll suddenly discontinue it. Of course they've got aisles and aisles stacked with crisps, biscuits, soft drinks, instant noodles, frozen junk etc etc but anything different and you're at the mercy of the fact the general populace just seems to want the crisps, biscuits, soft drinks, pre packed and frozen crap, your basic, thick as pig sh*t local demographics that think a jar of pesto is too exotic. And of course they had a lot of the Christmas bs ready to go on the shelves at least a week ago. Makes you lose the will to live.

Be hopeful that Britain doesn't follow the trend going on in America at the moment. There are so called dollar stores that are like mini grocery stores without ANYTHING fresh. They only sell shelf stable boxed and bagged products so that they can run understaffed and keep costs low etc.

What happens is, a lot of people go to the dollar stores to get their food and so regular supermarkets/grocery stores go out of business. Especially in a lot of poorer downtown areas there are "fresh food deserts" popping up where it's impossible to buy any fresh food without travelling long distances (public transportation is bad here and some poor people don't have cars). So for a lot of poor people it is now impossible to buy fresh food. They only have access to processed foods.

Well, the poor in inner city areas tend to live in apartments which may or may not have balconies and when they do they're pretty small... And I suspect if they invest in grow lights and hydroponic systems to grow indoors... They're probably not going to be growing vegetables... <laugh>

Anyone tried switching energy provider recently? My tariff ends 30-11 so was having a browse but barely getting any actual tariffs via uswitch (and all were more expensive) and edf who currently with can’t provide any current tariffs online and compare the market can’t provide anything due to restrictions on tariffs available..
