I believe Grant McCann when he said we couldn't take up the option of the extra year because his wage was above the upper limit of what we were paying to anyone. You don't get a proven goalscorer for cheaper than a still-unproven defender who already plays for you.
Blackburn got booed off at half time. I guess big Tone got the hairdryer out. Didn't need much. Did it? One goal and we cave in.
Anyone else think mccanns bristly attitude towards press and Darno's surprise shop-window appearance from the shadows has anything to do with career uncertainty in relation to 'advanced talks'... ?
Yeah I know, but Williams doesn't seem to be making the bench and Longman is, so I figured he'd be the natural selection. I don't think it matters who we put out against Sheffield United, they'll do us all the same.
From what we have seen I would say McCann strength as a coach is his ability to man manage the players, he seems to have them playing for him. His weakness is he doesn't appear to have the ability to change things mid-game, he is neither reactive or proactive. Last night by the time the players had sorted themselves out to deal with their 2 substitutions we were 2-0 down. As far as the game went, having that much of the ball and dominating large periods we shouldn't come away with a defeat. All the front 3 looked out of sorts, KLP is just not composed enough when he gets into good positions. Wilks seems short of pace to me and very sluggish, and Magennis isn't getting the sort of service he needs, but is offside too frequently. Generally, the midfield did okay, and the back 4, other than 2 individual mistakes also did okay especially in the first half. We have to start turning these performances into results, or confidence will start to suffer, then a repeat of 2 seasons ago is on the cards.
When we went 1-0 down the players looked at each desperate for some direction and found none from the Captain or the bench. In fact the bench looked more puzzled than the players. I’ve said it I’ll say it again we can’t leave it to late before replacing GM or we will definitely be back in League 1. I also noticed grumbling around me from people who are usually a glass half full believing the time is nearly here to replace GM. Last nights result wasn’t unexpected but failing to score in 6 games is unacceptable. What’s GM’s run in the last 30 Championship games 2 wins?
If it's any compensation what I've garnered is that Terry is a top L1 coach, and a bottom Championship, though human resources at the level might be a huge factor.
The only previous time Hull City failed to score in six consecutive League games was in 1920 under the management of David Menzies: 13 Nov 1920 - Port Vale 4 Hull City 0 20 Nov 1920 - South Shields 0 Hull City 0 27 Nov 1920 - Hull City 0 South Shields 2 4 Dec 1920 - Hull City 0 Nottingham Forest 3 11 Dec 1920 - Nottingham Forest 2 Hull City 0 18 Dec 1920 - Hull City 0 Wolverhampton Wanderers 1 On that occasion we drew the next match 1-1, the first of 11 consecutive league matches in which the Tigers scored at least one goal.
That is the problem Geo. The players he has are not proven indeed some have not done that well at all in the Championship. We might have some proven L1 players but we have seen many times that this does not make a Championship player. To describe the players as deadly is just a joke, does he mean in training ? . A statement like ‘ we all work hard In training to turn in some positive results on match days. We tried hard tonight and had plenty of shots but couldn’t turn them into goals. We have made many changes since the beginning of the season and we hope that the players we have will continue to develop in game management and fitness. Tactically it is up to me to change the team when we are up against it and that’s my responsibility. Tonight we were undone by a great spell of play by them and we couldn’t react. That’s down to me and I accept that. ‘ Just a thought.
07 September in an interview KLP said he's modelling his game on Wayne Rooney. Well headline news he's not and never will be WR and as a 20 year old, he should be playing with a huge smile his face and not as if the worlds about to end in 5 minutes... if he wants the big salary, the 50, 60, 70k a week instead of the measly 6 or 7 he might be on now (as a 20 year old) then he has along way to go... he should be reaching Biwens standard now and he's way off it... whether he's playing where he doesn't want to. I don't know.... cheer up FFS...
