    Swansea City v Millwall

    Competition - Sky Bet Championship
    Venue - Swansea.com stadium
    Date - 15 September 2021
    Kick off - 7:45pm

Following their goalless home draw against Hull last Saturday, next up for Russell Martin’s Swansea squad is another home match, this time against Gary Rowett’s Millwall.

Against the Tigers, the Swans dominated the contest for long periods but, in all honesty, struggled to open up a resolute Hull rearguard.

Matt Grimes came closest to a goal with a free-kick which was pushed onto the post by Matt Ingram.

The stalemate leaves both sides with only one victory from their opening six games of the Championship season.

In truth, there were some promising signs in this Swans’ display for Martin, however, a return of two points from his first three league games at the Swansea.com Stadium leaves much room for improvement.

Whilst the Swans were drawing against Hull, West Brom went top of the Championship table despite being held to a 1-1 draw at home by Millwall.

Fulham’s defeat at Blackpool sent the Baggies a point clear at the top.

Albion wasted a great chance to take the lead when Karlan Grant missed a penalty just before the break.

Four minutes into the second half Albion did take the lead with Baggies captain - and former Swan - Kyle Bartley's looping header from Conor Townsend's cross.

But Millwall took just six minutes to level when home keeper Sam Johnstone did not come to claim Jed Wallace's cross and, despite the presence of three home players on the line, on-loan Arsenal defender Danny Ballard's far-post header sneaked in just under the bar.

As a result of securing the point, Millwall are 7 places and 1 point ahead of the Swans.

The Swans have played the Lions on 52 previous occasions, winning 22, losing 19 and drawing 11 times.

In the corresponding fixture last season, the Swans ran out 2-1 winners thanks to goals by Bidwell and Cabango:

Turning to Wednesday evening, whilst I’m hopeful that the Swans will be able finally to convert possession into goals, I also suspect that Millwall will be buoyed by their result at the Hawthorns.

As such, I’m going for a 1–1 draw - and the wait for Russell Martin’s first home win in the Championship will continue. <cheers>

Thanks Taff. I think Millwall will be a tough nut to crack on Wednesday but I am hopeful we can keep a clean sheet so it's 1-0 for me

Millwall have been hit by the news that George Evans and Benik Afobe are likely to miss the clash at the Swansea.com Stadium.

“It’s a bit of a blow Benik, he had a problem with his knee which we are getting assessed so he won’t be available for the next game or two,” said manager Gary Rowett..

“George Evans has pulled his groin in training. We just can’t seem to keep the squad fit and give us those options to win games at Championship level.”

Swans win 2-0, still in optimistic mood. Might wane if we don’t get a win.

First time I have spent time really watching this year, wow how ponderous and slow is our play. Martin needs to sort this out 3 times from the edge of their box back to our keeper. Many opportunities to shoot and never take the shot. Dare i say this is as bad as watching us under Cooper. Just glad I don’t have a season ticket as there is no way I could watch this every week. I like possession play but at least have a little bit of purpose. Didn’t realise it was quite this bad.

Watching this one on Swans TV.

Is 46 x 0-0 draws good enough to stay up?
