Generally in good form since April this year. Usually runs well at Ayr. On a good mark and the Goldie/Mulrennan combo always dangerous to dismiss at this track. Looks to have a nice each way chance.

Shishkin has had wind surgery then. Lieutenant Henderson though has issued a most upbeat bulletin, 'It is a very routine procedure and nothing out of the ordinary so his training will have minimal distractions. The plan is very much to start off in the Tingle Creek at Sandown in December.'

Any odds on him not running if the great man deems the ground is something that it isn’t?

Plenty 2YO races at Naas today but not many catch the eye for a wager.

Red Lacewing was one exception based on a debut 3rd that showed promise for the future. Orinoco River sets a good standard based on a 92 official rating but she was below par last time and is tried in blinkers now. She has also thrown in the odd poor effort. Worth a saver for forecast purposes though.

Red Lacewing at 5/1 looked better value though and she got the nod.

The form gets a test in the opener when Pirate Jenny runs. She was second in the race Red Lacewing was third in and hopefully can boost the form.

    2.35 Naas Red Lacewing 5/1

Pirate Jenny was a late NR, so no litmus test for Red Lacewing later.

When is a winner not a winner?

I was looking at Aidan O'Brien's newcomer Leinster House last night, having figured it wasn't a strong race he was debuting in. 11/10 Fav at that time, it was no play for me. He drifted right out to 4/1 today, with Nero Tulip backed into Evens. The pair dead-heated, meaning that if you were on Nero Tulip you got half the stake on at Evens, effectively a money back job.

I remember Diminuendo dead-heating with Melodist in the Irish Oaks when she was 2/9 Fav and a guy in my local bookies going off on one when he went to collect his bet on the Cecil filly. He was under the impression that the odds were cut in half for a dead heat and was fit to be tied when told it was half stake won, half stake lost. There was a mention of the shop manager getting clubbed to death with a stool before a couple of the local heavies had words with the disgruntled punter and a tactical retreat was made.

Leinster House punters fared better, with the half stake on their selection working out as a 6/4 winner, if not quite as good as the stool swinger's theory of half odds and a 2/1 winner.

Grendel, do you have access to a copy of Horses in Training? If yes, how many Galileo 2yos has AOB got? Next question is why have none of them won this year?

Found a site that seems to list them: 28 colts and 21 fillies is what it looks like. So here we are a matter of weeks before the important 2yo Group 1 races take place and not one of them has won even though there are just about 50 just in the premier Irish stable.

I find that strange. I've never heard of a stallion's potency reducing such that his later foals do not have his ability passed down to them. The classic example of this not happening is usually quoted as Donatello, who in his first crop sired one of THE GREAT stayers, Alycidon, and in his last crop sired his best son in the 2000G and Derby winner Crepello.

Orinoco River took off like a scalded cat, as Red Lacewing missed the kick and had to be vigorously ridden. The selection must have been 10 lengths in arrears of Orinoco River early doors and looked cooked but she started a run and by the 2 furlong pole she was within range. Orinoco River started to falter and Red Lacewing muscled past her and narrowly got the better of it out front to score from New York City with the pair clear.

Orinoco River didn't settle in the blinkers and I would expect them to be off next time she runs. A frustrating sort but she may yet pop up somewhere. Red Lacewing did well considering her slow start today and I was well happy with her at 5/1 today.

    Chelmsford 7.30 South Carolina

Very unlucky last time out at Lingfield when showing some promise in 4th

"Close up on outer, chased leader over 6f out, every chance from 2f out, ridden over 1f out, badly hampered inside final furlong, hung right and no extra inside final 110yds (op 11/1 tchd 10/1)"

This horse is unexposed and could run well for each way purposes.

Racehorses In Training listed only 25 Galileo 2YO's with Aidan O'Brien. Only one of those had a name at the time, that was the colt Sun King. They noted that 11 were filles and 14 were colts.

Looking at Stallion Guide. Their table lists Galileo as having 24 2YO runners this season and the data is that five have managed to win from 40 starts.

From looking at them I reckon Bluegrass and Twinkle are the only Aidan O'Brien trained winners. The latter filly was thumped when running in the Debutante Stakes on her next start following her win.

Magical Lagoon is with Jessica Harrington, she won a Group 3 on her second start and seems the most promising at this stage.

Thanks. I was fooled (easily happens) by the Leading sires website www.stallionguide.com/leading-sires/. He has had winners but not enough to get him in the top 30 of sires of 2yo winners in Europe.

It’s a pretty hideous record this year.

Was his record with 2YOs better in other years? I’d never have thought him the type of stallion to get precocious 2YOs (with a few very famous exceptions of course) but it would be interesting to see his 2YO stats for, say, the last 5 years.

Pretty damning eh Will? What can possibly have gone wrong? I wonder if its possible that in his old age his genes became weaker. I doubt his final batch will produce any kind of comeback based on the results supplied by our resident anorak.
