I never really understood why clubs with financial difficulties get a points deduction, seems pointless and arbitrary.
Just kicking someone when they are down. I mean what does ANYONE gain from the points deduction?
I mean slap financial restraints on them, stop them signing players, maybe put on a wage cap for ALL staff, but a points deduction? What does that actually solve? All it does is **** the club up even more and make them more likely to be relegated, causing further financial burdens.

Thanks for clearing that up, I did wonder if it was a double whammy. Appointing Rooney in that financial situation makes it all a farce.

Derby had already cheated the rules, and despite cheating the rules, still continued with the financial suicide.

They kept appealing hoping it would go away I suppose. Read also but could just be supposition I suppose, that they've done admin now rather than next season so they only get the 12 point deduction, rather than 9 this and another 12 next season.

I get that, but a points deduction gains no one anything. A fine I understand, because the governing body issuing the fine gets something.....money.
But a points deduction? Who gains from that?

The penalties for financial transgressions should be financial penalties, and deducting points from a club makes the club less likely to earn money.

Derby is a proper football club, sad to see it’s demise, and all self inflicted by a Chairman playing fast and loose with the clubs future. He’d argue with the best of intentions, I’d argue he was a dumbfuck.

Except the other clubs operating within the rules, in theory.

Bod, my lot are struggling to survive playing within the rules. We were only discussing at the club a few months back, we can't even afford National League players now, because of the money swimming around in football. So yeah fook em, hit them hard, hit them really hard.

I guess, the couple of clubs around you get to finish in 13th instead of 14th......lol

A club in administration has no money and so a football sanction is the only available measure. Otherwise you’d end up with clubs doing what they **** they liked, going bust, setting back up the next day with new Directors whilst ****ing the creditors clean off & cracking on as normal. So it has to be like this.

Just seems daft is all. It'd be like if a boxer owes you money, and your like "Right, im taking over your finances so I can get my money back.....also i am cutting off one of your arms so you cannot box as good as before" its just seems counter effective

They've been trying to cheat the rules. Wycombe should have stayed up last season, but went down, because Derby got off the points deduction. They are trying to cheat the rules again, despite spending money they have not got. Clubs in the bottom half of the Championship, can't afford to compete against clubs like this. It's meant to be an even playing field and it's not.

You really think the owners give a **** about a points penalty though? And they are the ones who financially mismanaged the club.
Either way they are losing the club. All a points penalty does is punish the club and the fans, and not the ones responsible for the transgression

That’s not how it works though, they’ll have to agree a deal with their creditors before they’ll be allowed out of administration or they’ll face another points deduction. The threat has to be there or they’d offer 1p in the pound or something and all the local suppliers get ****ed.

Wycombe fans will be loving this news this morning. Oh well if we get to stay up, and Derby survive, they get to visit our lovely wonderful away stand next season. <laugh>

As has been said, the points deductions are (IMHO) there more as a deterrent to others.

Derby will be better for the administration, sad as it is to see - will make them a more attractive proposition to potential new owners and allow for a clear out of the dead wood.

Points deductions nearly ruined Luton and us, Sheff Wed, need to go back up this season or they could well be down a long time, only Birmingham seemed to cope with it but only just. The problem is, if a points deduction and potential ruin isn't a deterrent a financial penalty isn't going to stop it.
I see Derby are blaming Covid but Morris has been bending the rules and playing with fire for years, they needed to go up under Lampard, they didn't, everyone knew what was coming. He tried being clever when a buyer came along, they gave him two fingers, they will probably come in now and get it at a tenth of the price.

You’ve completely missed the point ffs. Without the threat of points deductions then clubs would be popping into admin every other week, as insolvent Ltd companies, ****ing all the local suppliers, and just cracking on the next day as if **** all had happened.
