The greatest natural finisher England has ever produced, he was a goal scoring machine...He really should be Sir Jimmy.

That was probably the old Sholing Sports FC that used to play at Birch Lawn behind the social club along North East Road wasn't it Gary?
They folded in the 90s when they lost their ground but I remember watching some great games down there, particularly against Totton and I remember 1000 cramming into the tiny ground for a Hampshire League championship decider against them.
Sholing FC is the old VTFC that changed the name when Vospers closed in Southampton and they play at the VT Ground along Portsmouth Road.
They are a team on the up after promotion from the Wessex League a couple of years ago and have their own rivalry with AFC Totton at the top of The Southern League South table and beat Tiverton Town FC from the league above in the FA Cup yesterday.
They have a young team and could do an Eastleigh with a couple more promotions but would need some investment too.

Here's an old Sholing Sports FC v AFC Totton programme from 1984 and pics of the old Birch Lawn ground...

I've been meaning to go this season but been unlucky with being on call falling on the day of home games. Will definitely get there before Christmas.

They've resigned from this level before haven't they, due to required ground improvements or something? Do you think that's likely to happen again?

Yes, they had to resign from the Southern League due to the toilet facilities at the Mackoy Stadium not being up to the required standard and there was word that the cost and logistics of travelling was restrictive at the time as well.
The club have since upgraded the ground and are financially better equipped now and not just that the squad has improved a lot in the last few years with several talented young players breaking into the team.
A good match to pick would be the top of the table local derby with old rivals AFC Totton on tuesday night 4/10/21 at home and there is the 3rd Qualifying round of the FA which is yet to be drawn and that will be played on the 2/10/21 with Sholing due a home draw against possibly a National League team.

Winchester have been scored for fun this season too. I always felt that the rivalry was 3- way between Totton, Sholing and Winchester. Sholingused to be the Vosper's works team but there are actully 2 teams in Totton, te smaller one of which used to be te BAT team and had Jo Tessam playing for them at one time.

I went to the home game against Winchester on bank holiday Monday and there was a bumper crowd probably boosted by a few from Winchester..

Watching a bit of the Ryder Cup build up and they’ve brought up how unbelievable it is that Ronaldo is back in the Premier League. Rory McIlroy wants to talk about it rather than the golf

It’s great he’s back in the league, bigger than all sports

McIlroy is a rabid Man U supporter, of course he’s going to talk about Ronaldo.

There are far bigger sporting stories at the moment, Emma Raducanu is bigger than practically anything else for a start.
