Motd penalty analysis spot on. FFS how can that be overturned <doh> Ridiculous. Still, go 1-0 up & we might have lost ….. or won? Great point regardless. We’ll done Saints.

Thats sounds about right Tom. Have you got an explanation as to why he walked back both the red card AND the penalty because that makes no ****ing sense to me at all.

edit - apart from totally bottling it under pressure.

Nope. I just don't understand why he sent off Walker in the first place. He clearly made an attempt for the ball. That utterly turd piece of refereeing ultimately cost us IMO.

I tend to agree with the others that said if we scored they would have kicked into life. A nil-nil might have been the best we could ask for.

I haven't seen too many mention the Stephens injury. Felt so bad for him as he has been in the form of his life and was having a great time out there ****-housing Bernardo.

Agree. Think the ref rescinded the red card and then believed (under pressure) that he had to cancel the penalty as well! Always a penalty. Only consolation is that we had a dodgy penalty recently...these things happen. And, as said, goals change games and City may have woken up...or perhaps we’d have scored again. My brain hurts. Still, a point away at City is a good point.

As well as we have been defending I tend to agree with this as well. They might have tried taking more shots on goal rather than doing a peak era Arsenal impression of trying to score the perfect goal

the thing about city is given the sheer quality they have and their goal record so far this season they probably thought they would score even up to 90 minutes so weren’t showing enough urgency. Kind of like the commentary that I think was 99 UCL final “Can Manchester United score - they ALWAYS score”

what I noticed from motd was that all the positives from us they seemed to show after the main highlights but didn’t seem to come up in the main reel - which gave off the impression it was one way traffic to city

Can’t understand all this tosh about Citeh being tired after a midweek match. Isn’t that why they have two Premiership teams in their squad. Pathetic excuse. Watched MOTD last night and Saints apparently didn’t feature in the game at all. Selective editing?

Very selective in the main highlights and then in the post match analysis they pulled out a bunch of stuff they didn’t previously show

Bloody right OSS, many of the match reports and MOTD leave you wondering who the Mancs were playing.

Was working yesterday so didn't get the opportunity to regale you all with my cutting insight, and general football genuis, my apologies.

A point away against City is brilliant. A clean sheet away to them is the icing on the cake. That's a cracking result. Has Ralph finally sorted the defence? It's certainly looking that way. Yeah we're not fully firing up top yet but hopefully we'll have a bit more luck against Wolves (especially as Mini Lincoln and I are going) I really would like to see Broja and Armstrong given 3/4 games to make a partnership work but maybe RH has other ideas. Looking forward to the Sheff Utd game already. COYR

Absolutely. If he hadn't given the red card, I struggle to see how Atkinson could have advised Moss to review the penalty (because it wasn't a clear and obvious error). But he absolutely had to advise him to review the red card (which was a clear and obvious error). And because the two are part of the same single incident, reviewing the red card effectively gave Moss a free shot at reviewing the penalty too.

Yeah but what Atkinson should’ve said was “it is a pen but check the red card you fat twat”

I still don’t think it was a pen, so he managed to **** up all the decisions in one go

There were no protestations from Walker when Moss pointed to the spot - he was expecting it. Altogether, a clusterfcuk from the on-field and VAR officials.

Looked at it on the highlights now
Walker gets Armstrong, doesn't touch the ball and its clearly a pen and a possibly a yellow depending on Moss's interpretation

Why has he overruled his own decision when the pen is not only NOT a clear and obvious error but actually CORRECT?
Why did he give him a red card? How did he mange to go from a severe violation (red) to no foul?
The only clear and obvious error that VAR should have ruled on was allowing Moss to referee this game

How he's found this new way to **** up a decision with VAR is beyond me
    Either genius or madness <doh>

    Also ...

We are going to suffer from this new letting things go rule
When Prowsey fouls Sterling, letting that go is maybe giving Man City an advantage, but I think they might prefer a free kick 20yds out
... and I know we would

Still buzzing over the performance, wasn’t expecting anything as good as that before the game.

Romeu - Massive performance, so composed on the ball and covered everyone. Like prime Schneiderlin.

Walker-Peters - Defending his back post heroically and his dribbling ability to get out of pressure is so important to us.

Tino - A bit wasteful in the final third ( more of an attacking chemistry issue ) but everything else about his game was brilliant. Was done a few times by Grealish but no full-back in the league can really shackle him.

Bednarek - Really solid and glad to see him look decent with Salisu.

Salisu - Can we please just extend his contract already?

Che and Adarma - Will take a bit of time to build a more potent partnership, not on the same wavelength yet. Thought Che’s hold-up wasn’t as great as it has been but we know what he can do.

JWP - Not looking 100% but played well, kept the play ticking and was especially good at weighting his passes.

Ely and Redmond - Decision making lacking at times but both put in a good shift. Really like seeing them drop into the middle and moving the ball forward.

McCarthy - Long kicking wasn’t on it today but kept the ball out the net when he needed to and commanded his box well. We haven’t really been linked with any ball-playing keepers yet, which is interesting.

Let’s beat Wolves and get our season started properly.
