WTAF???!!! Global Britain??? We’ll be even more of a laughing stock than we are already. This is an unbelievably stupid idea, having spent decades (starting well before we joined the EU) trying to drag the country into the 20th century with metrication. I pity the poor Maths teachers

Living in a pound/ounce, inch/foot country I can say it would be beyond stupid to return to that. SI is so much better and it is a disadvantage to people here when they interact with the other 99% of the world which uses SI.

What are they going to do for modern SI units like the ampere or lumen - good luck converting that into Imperial units...

Spaffer ****ing Johnson and his chums haven't a clue about science and engineering and derived units. The SI system is logical, coherent and very sensible every thing ****ing Johnson isn't. He'll have us measuring in cubits and paying with groats next.

Personally I think we should return to the traditional hundredweight - nautical mile - fortnight system still used in parts of Norfolk. They haven't been able to get speedometers for their cars since we joined the Common Market. Isn't this why we all voted for Brexit?

In Norfolk, using half dozens and dozens will make more sense, as they will match with the digits on their hands

But don't you see? This is the obvious first step in returning us to our heyday, when everything important was written in Latin, education was only needed for the elite, and ordinary people were herding animals and tilling the soil for their lords and masters. As long as we practise our archery, for any planned re-settlement of France, via Agincourt, there will be no need to waste resources in providing literacy or numeracy, so any measurement system will only be needed to calculate the taxes we pay, in order to maintain the lifestyles of the entitled.

I am not very happy about the alliance between the UK, Australia and the US with regard to the submarine deterent against China. I do not think we should have nuclear weapons anyway but siding up against the Chinese to safegaurd a region of the world in which we have no interest is very dangerous indeed. What is interesting is that the mooted Chineses agrandisement in this area is actually referring back to a territorial resolution from 1947 and therefore you could aegue that the Chinese are actually not breaking any agreements.

It is also bewildering that this appears to have upset M Macron but I don't think he will be in office long enough to matter. The more I think about things, the more persuasive it seems to become neutral and quit Nato. The sabre rattling by the likes of America, Australia and Russia is doing no good and it is about time that people woke up to the fact that Western policy will have absolutely no impact upon China who will exercise more power in the 21st Century over the developed world since the Romans. There is no point in trying to combat the Chinese because their influence is so widespread, especially in continents like Africa and increasingly in South America. A policy of appeasement would be more sensible in this instance.

Laura Kuensberg follows Boris all the way to the US and criticises him taking twenty quid from the poor. I agree this government is a pile of crap but is there no US based journalist? Surely she is just on a jolly on the back of tax payers money...
