I feel for you guys. You'll have to let me know which supermarkets you shop at so I'll know to avoid it. I do a £200 shop once a month and then top up as I go through the month as and when required. Rarely is any items out of stock, sometimes just one or two but that's normal, tbh. As for energy prices rocketing? How you managed to pin that on Brexit?
[QU Every single expert I've heard on lots of different media have said it's not a shortage of food, it's a reduction in choice. We are not going to run out of food. You might not be able to get a particular brand you like. However, the line from mainstream media is 'FOOD SHORTAGES!'. Fear is their game, I thought we'd have seen through that by now.
TBF mate they're the same thing, no one is saying all food will vanish. At a time we're supposed to be progressing, having limited choice and half empty shelves looks like the Russia we used to laugh at.
Spoken like a true tory spokesperson ****ing hell man have a word with yourself. Thats like saying Boris isnt a liar - hes just incorrect a lot of the time!
There’s absolutely all sorts missing from every supermarket around the city. Basic stuff as well like sugar, and water. The energy prices in the EU are subject to a protective cap, a cap we previously benefitted from. The energy crisis is categorically and wholly a Brexit thing. Will take you 30 seconds of web searching to find that information. There are no gas shortages. It’s just that we are having our eyes bled to buy it in. It’s cost several companies and many, many jobs already.
Why do people cleave to a particular political party, no matter who is running that party or how the party's policies change? Why do people have a hatred of people in the opposite party to the one they 'support? There must be hundreds, if not thousands, of members of the Labour and Conservative Parties. They can't all be bad/good people (dependant on your views). Why do people claim to 'support' a particular party? They aren't football teams. The parties should have to work for your vote, not expect it through ancestral adherence to them. I don't suppose I'll ever get answers to these questions but I constantly wonder about them.
We must be shopping in different places. I'm yet to see a shop that's noticeably light on goods. A cold winter in the UK and Europe left our gas stock depleted and refineries in the USA have been closed down. How is that the fault of Brexit? Our energy prices are capped if you chose to do so. I know the companies can't put the prices up for a while after this until it's reviewed.
It's the default of any staunch Labour supporters. If you don't conform to their way of thinking you are a Tory. Sometimes an Israeli bot, I've been called that one before.
The wholesale gas price is through the roof mate, so smaller companies with a heavy slate of customers on fixed tariffs are closing, and there customer lists will be put to auction. It’s a massive **** show.
In deepest Somerset out local supermarkets (asda, sainsburies and tesco) are noticably short of stock on numerous items across the whole range. 2 of them have even run out of carrier bags and have been without for the last 5 days. Not a bad thing environmentally but bloody annoying when you forget to take some
It's actually quite funny, here in the Cotswolds, hearing people complaining that there's no asparagus, Chablis, Taylors teabags and other 'essentials' Not funny that the staff in the CO-OP keep moving things, and spacing them out, to make it look like the shelves are stacked. And there's something weird happening with fuel ... ... my diesel, in 3 months, has gone up from 134ppl to 145ppl, not helpful for getting to matches.
Now now picking on Bonko and the tories... There is one public benefit for the less well off, that has tremendous growth in the last 10 years and which is set for a big increase as the working poor will be making more use of them... FOOD BANKS! Thanks Bonko....
The first food bank in the UK was established by the Trussel Trust in 2000 and, according to their website, the network spread 'rapidly'. The biggest increase in foodbank use has been as a result of the pandemic. All of which suggests that the factors that bring about the need for them go beyond party politics. It could just as easily be said that Labour had 10 years to negate the need for them, but didn't. Of course, the balls up of Universal Credit hasn't helped in any way whatsoever but its too simplistic to blame whichever party is in power. The real root cause for the situation is societal and multifaceted. If it was easy to resolve, someone would have a coherent plan to do so.
Or the Tories and their lack of action on poverty... if they do not keep the £20... it is easy to solve, increase benefits for those most in need. Also put Marcus Radford and his Mum in charge of it.. Of course there has also been soup kitchens for a long time, they are more numerous and needed even more now. The big growth in food banks happened after 2011, a year after Cameron was elected. Coincidental?
Crazy, mate. I'm genuinely grateful that so far I haven't been effected yet by any type of shortages. Carrier bags is a separate discussion altogether. I was at the local village shop yesterday and they charged me 25p for a carrier bag to put my bread and milk in. I was stunned. 25p for a carrier bag! Ocado are good. They charge me 10p for every carrier bag that my goods are packed in and after a few shops I hand the used carrier bags back to them and they give me my money back for each one. Canny, I can save a 10a on my shopping every 4 or 5 shops.
If people have space to grow their own food then surely the pandemic and food shortages when everybody started to panic buy has made a lot of people choose a little area in their garden to grow their own things...
They are doing things to address inequalities in society. Particularly in schools. And I agree, its harsh to cut that extra 20 quid on Universal Credit. But to continue to blame one party for poverty, with the tacit implication that the 'other' party would eradicate it is burying your head in the sand. In fact, I think this tribalism in politics actually exacerbates the situation. This is a societal problem and requires much deeper solutions than blaming Boris/Theresa/David/Gordon/Tony *delete as applicable.
