That would confuse folk around here, where a 'sannie' is either a sand-shoe, or a sanitary towel.

Think it is more of a Southern thing.
I think I have heard people saying sambo before, I don't mind that. I still have a Black Sambo book.

Fair point, but if somebody was asking what you had for lunch and you replied, "a bacon sannie", surely people wouldn't be confused? For the record, I wouldn't use the word "sannie" but it is a more obvious name for a sandwich than a "sarnie" is.

They'd think you were weird for pronouncing it a sannie.

Like I said, I wouldn't say it, but it is far more logical to say that than "sarnie"

Ask for a "hang sambo" fs that sounds bad but you'd hear that every day in these parts.

I would just call it a sandwich. Most people in Scotland would call it a "piece'.

    Jesus, really Mick?

I honestly had no idea the word had a different connotation in Ireland <ok>

What with me being a "Man Of The Earth" you would have thought I would have known.

I do hope Cliffy doesn't think any the less of me.

Agree buddy. Sandwich is the only correct term.

"piece" is a term used by louts. Anyway should it not be "piecey"?

It does appear to be a northern thing. In which case, I definitely won't be using it in future. I should have known better.

    Good day, sir.
