This, there's enough wannabe gangsters strutting around the place edgy as f#*k thinking they own the place on a match day. imagine them with extra booze in them and like you say, chucking it about when we score.
They'd be daft to hoy it around in their seat, not least because it's ****ing stupid, but isn't the coked up teenager section right in front of the security bit? Would be easy to ID them and give them a ban. They shut the bars just after HT as well don't they? I'd imagine, those that cant wait 45mins for a pint, will buy 2 for the second half and take them to their seats.
I go to rugby quite a lot and enjoy a drink in the stand but its annoying when people are constantly up and down to the bar. You wonder why they've bothered buying a ticket for the match, because they're not seeing it. I'm at non-league football most weeks, where you can take a drink into the stand. It seems to work OK in that environment. It might work better within a bigger ground with these new safe standing areas.
I used to like a couple beers before the match and maybe one half time, but I'd be back and forth for a pìss too much nowadays I couldn't be arsed sitting or standing holding a beer whilst watching the game.
Some valid points on both sides of the argument. I don't buy into the suggestion that people will get more drunk if they can take a pint to their seat. Anyone who has it in their mind to get completely obliterated has more than enough time beforehand to do it. You could argue that having time restricted windows when you can buy drink encourages folk to drink more than they would if they could take their time. I do agree that the beer chucking thing would be annoying, but I'm sure that could be policed easily enough and would subside over time. As Norton Cat says, works fine in non league football.
Agree that those who want to get plastered can do so anyway. As far as throwing it about, as you say ,it may not happen or stop happening, but are people going to take care to not spill rather than jump up and down in the excitement of scoring.
No one chucks it around at the rugby but you do get spillages. I kicked three pints of Guinness over once. Complete accident and I went to replace them but the owner wouldn't let me and was very nice about. I suppose that might be the difference. Having said that, I went to see Saracens play Toulouse at Wembley once and all of the stewards and bar staff were saying how strange it was to let people into their seats carrying pints. It struck me that it was completely ridiculous that I could do it watching rugby there but on the occasions I've been there to watch football, I couldn't.
What's the chances of getting back to your seat with a Pint, anywhere near full? The concrete from the Bars to the seats is going to be a bit on the dangerous side with spilt beer too. Best to attend in your full waterproofs if this happens
Unfortunately this will be spoiled by the small minority of idiots who think it’s funny to chuck £4 pints around, or even worse pints of piss. There’d be scraps all over the place and half empty pints chucked onto the pitch. It’s a definite no from me.
The Czechs drink more beer per head of population than anywhere else in Europe. Beer is allowed to be consumed in the seats there, with no cause for concern. Personally, I would rather grab a beer when I enter the ground and take it to my seat, than stand with people milling all around you. This will also make it easier to go to the bogs, without having to battle through crowds of people just standing there. I agree that the bar should close at 2.55, re-open at 3.40, close again at 4 then re-open at 4.50 so people can enjoy a celebratory drink after the match.
£4 pints ???? I tend to agree with you. But to be fair the system seems to work OK at cricket, though I accept that cricket is a rather more sedate Sport. It even seems to work at Rugby which is not sedate. If I understand correctly, this will only be a 'trial' to start with. I will watch how this turns out with some interest.
I can see the possible pitfalls but I can't get past it being allowed in some sports but not others. To me that's bollocks. Also, the police are there to do a job and they're paid for doing it, they don't get to "fiercely oppose" or veto anything. They're civil servants. I'm sure if you asked they'd be fiercely opposed to the right to protest too. We're talking about having a drink in your seat, that you've paid for! You're already legally allowed to drink as much as you want before, in the middle and after the game. It's crazy that you can't take a pint to your seat.
