The Yanks cottoned on to not perpetually sticking with Mickelson, Davis Love, Woods, Furyk et al. They've moved on . . . we haven't. We might as well have selected Faldo, Lyle, McGinley & Langer.
Actually this deal seems better. Flights and accommodation, 5 nights, 4 rounds including one on the Ryder Cup course from £1700 https://www.golftravelcentre.com/re...uEhQc7AW01FgCXtzF_S18Cug8wAcFymInrrnxwJR-su1o
A very chastening experience that .. some wonderful performances from the Americans and a thoroughly deserved victory.. was pleased for Rory to finally find a bit of form at the end, and to anyone who thinks it doesn't matter to them try watching the interviews with Rory and Poulter after, the bottom.line though is that they played terrific golf, they played to their rankings and holed the putts when required. On a side note was lovely to see what will probably be Lee Westwoods final.playing appearance finish on a win, and to have had his son as caddie must have been a very special moment for him. Westy will no doubt be the next captain but I wish him good luck, this American team is fantastic. We need to find some good young ones to join the likes of Hatton, Fleetwood, Lowry, Rahm and Hovland to compete against them.
It's being nostalgic and 'lovely' and having your son on the bag that we lost. We were mentally a generation behind the Americans.
I've been playing and watching over more years than I care to remember, and since European players were included, it has been very much down to periods of time when either side of the Atlantic has the best players. At the moment it's very much America that has the better players, and they could well dominate for a few more Ryder Cups to come.
Agreed this is like say the Aussie cricket team , every so many years you get a full team of exceptional young players come through. The US has them now all at once , Europe has to hope more come the fore or we could suffer for 5 cups . Maybe McIntyre and Rose could have improved the team but we would still be behind them . It’s fine margins too , on Saturday so many putts ‘ just’ missed but the yanks putts didn’t .
We lost to a better team, simple as, and Westwood actually won his singles.match ! Despite losing the overall tie
The 'who you know' aspect has to stop or else the yanks will dominate for the next 20 years... But, I guess that's a British thing..
Stricker had 6 choices, so went with those players in form, alas Harrington stuck with traditions, in that he had only 3 picks, so 9 of this team actually qualified ! Other then an aging Poulter who else would you have picked ? An aging Rose ? All 12 of the Americans qualified for the season ending play offs, and don't say that's cos that's were they play their golf, because the majority of Europeans are there too ! Quite simply they were better then us, all round. As I said some new talent has to emmerge over the next couple of years for us to compete against such a strong team, but I for one will look forward to 2023.
That frankly was an utter fisting, no lube, no warm up, just fisted. Only Rahm can walk away from that with his chin up tbh, and even then Scheffler did a number on him yesterday. The US could well dominate the Ryder Cup for the next 4 or 5 events, there's so much talent in there and so many of them so young too. They've actually embraced it as a team in a way that hasn't seemed to happen during the Mickleson / Woods years and that can't be under estimated. Can't even put it down to a single area, they drove better, hit better irons and putted better, but then they simply have a lot of much better players so it's not a surprise really. I suspect that when we next play in Rome that the course will be a lot less forgiving, tho not sure that'll be an advantage to us anyway given the difference in ability levels, over this weekend I don't think I've ever seen so many wayward drives and approaches (from both teams) landing in the rough and in bunkers where the players have been able to escape so simply, it's almost like unless you went into the water there wasn't really that much punishment for going way off line.
Exactly, they set it up to favour them, like we do when we host it, I don't have a problem with that, and this was the point I have highlighted re the talent they had on display, some brilliant golfers in that team, and multiple.major winners, sometimes you just have to put your hand up and say well played !
Yeah, and you know what, they've not won in Europe since 93! I do fear though that we could have had a course set up in any way this last weekend and it wouldn't have mattered, they were just miles miles better, and have been on the Tours and in Majors for the past few years too.
The rankings gave the result away before a ball was hit.. Rahm, ranked number one, then a steady stream of Americans ranked top 10/15.The Americans selected are ultra consistent and have been all season...
Totally agree, when you have players bombing it over 400 yards on par 5s you know there might be a problem, tbh yesterday Dechambeau launched one into the par 4 firsts green the holed the putts for a 2 .. I mean which human being can compete wit that ffs lol. There'll be a reaction for the better, but we definitely need some younger new talent to be unearthed.
Exactly.. however if you look at previous Ryder Cups, that has often been the case, the Americans traditionally ha e higher ranked players then the Eurooeans, but this time round they have young hungry players who regularly compete at the highest level and under pressure. The age group they had meant they all knew each other well and had done since collegiate golf, so the team ethos was there already, enhanced by their efforts in the Presidents cup which allowed them to fine tune their partnerships.
I've been betting players like Casey,Fleetwood and to a lesser extent Mcilroy for years now. They usually feature at some point in Majors or bigger known tournaments but almost invariably screw it up in at least one round. For the last few years the Americans(Morikawa,Schauffele,Scheffler,Finau et al)and of course Jon Rahm are usually good for consistency in getting a return for your money and it doesn't look like changing for some time? An English player who I'm keeping an eye on in terms of improvement in the next few years would be Andy Sullivan but he's 34...
Less than that, it's only a year away in Italy. I've commented earlier, why would our Captain hamstring his selection by only having 3 wild cards as opposed to USA's 6? Clearly would have made no difference whatsoever, but don't get it. I must admit, the last few years I wait in anticipation for every Open, only for the leaderboard to be dominated by yanks (most I've never heard of) and the the odd Aussie and oriental player I'm not sure we have the talent out there to have a 'cull' of our deadwood for next year? I know Westwood's tipped for the Captain's role, but Garcia, Rose, Poulter may be needed for one more?
One of the earlier holes too. If Europeans had any inkling of a thought that a miraculous comeback was on, that door was firmly shut there and then. It was incredible golf.
