Well apparently this is an important game that we want to win, but it's not a must win.

    Or something.

Anyway, ignore the blatherings of a man quickly turning into David Moyes, it is indeed must win. As we lost the first game. So not winning just kicks the can down the street onto the next game, which becomes a must win. For actual **** sake.

I fully expect either Matic or Fred to play with McTominay as Maguire is out, so it's panic stations again regards our centre halves, who must (for some ****ing reason) be 'protected' at all costs.

    We'll draw.

*For examples of how to play in European competition, watch Liverpool. As much as it pains me to say it. Someone, please, tell Solskjaer and Phelan to go and ****ing watch them, or turn the TV on.*

With Wan Bissaka suspended and Shaw probably injured, maybe this is an opportunity to play actual wing back in Telles and Dalot?

Play three centre halves; Varane, Lindelof and Bailly.

Then a CM pair of Pogba and Fernandes, with Sancho, Ronaldo and Greenwood in front.

Surely a back five doesn't need protecting by its midfield pair? Surely?

If it does, pair McTominay with Pogba and put Fernandes in one of the wider front three positions

    *the above won't happen*

I don’t think it’s the time for knee-jerk reactions but the fact that you lost your first game, does that increase the pressure on you to get a positive result tomorrow? Even though it’s just one game and very early, if you end up with one point or no points from two games, suddenly it becomes very difficult…

“Yeah, you're right. It's a group stage, there’s only six games, you need 10, maybe 12 points to go through most likely and we lost three points last time. Atalanta and Villarreal drew last time too, Villarreal [getting] one point at home maybe isn’t enough for them to say a draw [on Wednesday] is good enough for them either. It's two teams that will be going for three points. If you end up with zero or one point from the first two games, you need to win the last four, probably. It's still not a must-win game but it's a very important game definitely. As I said after Young Boys, home games, if you get three wins at home and you win one away game, you should be through. The focus is on three points, we've been looking at Villarreal again of course, looking at the final, looking at what we can do better, what was good in that game and we’ll get a good response from the weekend of course.”

Maybe i'm begin harsh, but he was just waffling a bit at times. Some of his utterings are worse than when Moyes was with us, he doesn't have positivity in his press conferences, yet we're all supposed to be blindly positive.

For absolute definite though, if we don't win tonight all the rest are indeed must win games.

We should be beating Villarreal at home. It's not even a question.

Wouldn't be surprised. He's a Man Utd manager in name only but not in stature.

    Thank you for posting that.

Upon reading that response, it really makes me wonder how Ole could possibly motivate the team to be better than yesterday on a consistent basis. I don’t think you’re being harsh at all. The response almost feels like he’s a Reading manager playing Villarreal.

On another note, I saw a picture of Allegri losing his sht from a Juve match and my head went to Ole sitting calmly every single match when the players need a kick up the rear. Ole simply doesn’t have that fire. He’s a very nice guy and ponders to panhandling far too much than demanding the absolute best from the players.

We're lucky not to be 7-0 down. De Gea and their lack of a finisher is saving us.

He's resorted to the same old **** of having us pass it round the back, then completely bypass the midfield and play it long for the front man.

    This is appalling. Appalling.

He's gone back to the same ****e he was doing last year and he does this because he's a fcking coward.

He's playing not to lose to save his job.

He's instilling a ****cunt mentality in the side because his job is more important to him than the success of the team. Fck him.

Let me paste this in from commentators.. I don't want to be seen as a hater:

    "Shamoon Hafez

    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

A hubbub of disgruntleness at Old Trafford at half-time.

United have Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho and Paul Pogba all starting tonight but have rarely looked like carving Villarreal open.

There seems to be a distinct lack of plan from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for his attacking players.

His side have fared even worse at the back and the visitors will be thinking how they are not in front. They could easily have scored six or seven."

The thing I find odd is that he's chosen this game to not go with two defensive midfielders, when your main centre half is injured, yet still gone flat back four.

It's just odd. He plays Fred when Maguire is there yet doesn't bother when it's Lindelof instead, who is at best lightweight and at worst non existent.

I picked more or less the same side earlier but McTominay (or indeed Bailly) would be in a three centre half set up with wing backs.

On top of that, both Dalot and Telles are wing backs, and not traditional full backs.

All ****ed up, to be absolutely honest.

    It's all true mate.

He stands there with a look on his face like he's trying to fix the ozone layer.

It's not as hard as he fcking makes out. He's just not up to the task.

Even IF we win this, the dye is cast.

THIS, this right here, is the best Ole can do. And if you want to win trophies and be successful, lucking out against a mediocre side is no way a marker.

Emery will be the more disappointed manager right now. That in itself is an embarrassment.

I look at the players on the pitch and just think what the ****.

Then it's just apparent, again, that they just aren't coached and there is no set plan for any opposition, ever. Let alone specific plans for specific opponents.

It's literally hoping hoping the best.

    ****ing lolz.

At what point will he realise that Dalot and Telles are wing backs ans set up a back five up accordingly?

but, we're United and that................ fingers crossed eh.

Dalot will get all the blame.

I've never considered him a rb. He's a very good right winger though.

What a goal by Telles. Fck me. What a volley <applause> 1-1

For all our huffing and puffing since the equaliser, have we created anything of note?

    No.

It's not like we're pulling them apart at all.

Tactics of a clown.... run around quickly lads, Cavani and Ronaldo will score.
