It’s a process, and since domestic FFP it’s been made tougher, Leicester showed it can be done, but they did it by just putting together a team that was greater than the sum of its parts, and that team found a way of playing that suited them perfectly. No one has said it will happen overnight. I said 2-3 years for them to be competitive. The priority atm is to avoid relegation. That will be a milestone/achievement if they do. The way I see it the argument is about time scale. I just heard Staveley saying the objective is to win the title after 5 years but within 10.

The reality of the project ahead is massive but in the end it still boils down to one of a certain level of fairness to all.

The general rules are still nowhere near tight enough to have adequate controls and there are still questions around city "staff" having been paid under the table etc.

The premier league has some reasonably decent mid table squads right now who've works for years on it. Even west sham who robbed that stadium.

You.could effectively do anything you wanted and have continued to do so which has been largely counter productive over the whole term as your owner has managed to destroy progress and start over countless times now. You are currently engaged in an effective money no objective spending splurge. Yet hilariously it is appointing another ultra defensive coach that's won you the big pot and ambramovich has sacked every one of those types of coaches quick smart.

I fail to see exactly why these guys want to buy into the prem with chelsea and city bar it's the only place to be. They could buy in italy and dominate easily or look to somehwere like Valencia and blow the rotten spanish old guard to bits.

Newcastle will need 11 new players to even start thinking about top 6. Itll be quite a job to magic that amount out of the players chelsea have not already signed or the decrepit players psg have hovered up.

Just saying that our quick rise to the top was because of a) No FFP constraints and b) We were already in the top 4, where as Newcastle are gonna have to start from Relegation candidates and work their way up, and like you said, will need a whole new squad.

Roman bought a lot of players, but we kept our spine of Cudicini, Terry, Gallas, Lampard. Newcastle will essentially start from scratch.

If there was any owners with motivation and resources to do it, then it would be the Saudis. For them, this project cannot fail. How can they accept any failure when their smaller neighbours have been so successful? Unlike the Americans they are not in it for the money.

Spent a fair bit of time in Newcastle, its very similar to Liverpool in many ways. Geordies are ace.
