Good to see that Earth shot awards thing that Prince William is involved with, with all of its glitz and TV pompery Reckon those are the sort of people that should be celebrated on a TV show, rather than some Z list celebrity eating a pair of kangaroo knackers
Dunno mate, I ain't got a tele. I saw a clip about it though. Prince William and Kate are giving 5 x £1m prizes to the most innovative environmental projects. Glitzy award show in 'the oscars' style hosted by David Attenborough and Emma Watson dishing out the prizes.
That's exactly the sort of stuff TV needs to be beaming into people's living rooms imo I watch the tele round me old dear's sometimes and **** me it is full of vacuous nonsense. I don't understand how people can sit there for hours watching that ****e.
Just caught sir david Attenboroughs cop 26 speech. The man has magical powers im sure, such a captivating speaker and a proper national treasure. He just has a way of making you give a ****. Off to sort out my recycling now
Not on GC he doesn't I think I saw @Diego on there calling him a senile old hypocritical **** earlier
That is almost what he's posted It's incredible that people start attacking the likes of Attenborough and world leaders for using airplanes or cars and completely miss the point - which is that we have limited alternatives and the point of highlighting the issue is to change thinking to develop alternatives so we don't have to pollute the planet doing what we need to or want to
He’s recently added “inadequate” before the “crazed leftie”. He thinks it adds more weight to his insults
There's a surprise. It's a lazy argument that 'oh you use a car, so you're part of the problem and you're a hypocrite' We are where we are with the tech we've got. You can't expect people to switch to a 0% carbon output overnight. It needs world leaders to put the infrastructure in place to enable people to do so.
Well exactly, and trying to change mindsets so there's a willingness to do it. It's often because there's big business interests being protected against the changes. And that's specific to infrastructure and certain industries. Why not attack them? It's also time to highlight the good that many within certain industries are doing to change certain practices and encourage countries to follow those. It'll be costly in some cases but sometimes it's not. Sometimes it's just about protecting vested interests. The worst thing to come out of this Cop26 is if fck all changes. Especially with Putin and the Chinese not attending.
It’s just so ****ing dull and predictable, like the ‘climate has always changed & it’s raining so it’s not a problem’ Dismiss the biggest issue facing the planet with whataboutery and muh China though.
I think even big businesses are beginning to realise that without radical change in terms of how much C02 we put out, their very existence is threatened. The big issue here though is burning fossil fuels. Oil & gas is woven into the fabric of industry, transport and wider society. It's changing slowly, but not before we see even more drastic climate related issues. That's coming down the line now, even if we stopped it all tomorrow. I think Cop26 will largely be a talking shop, with some take away headline targets. But like most govts around the world, they won't do anything radical until a major event happens, and they are forced to act.
