What gets me is the rival clubs actually offering him the jobs. He’s such a dull and uninspiring manager who hasn’t really done much in his managerial career and yet has seemingly never been short of offers. Why as a board you’d risk pissing off your own fans by hiring a manager who’s not only extremely mediocre but managed one of your main rivals is something I can’t quite get my head around.

I kind of see what they’re aiming for. They want steady improvement and probably realise they won’t be able to get the big glamour name they want straight away.

I really want them to be cut adrift when January comes around thought. Be funny if they got relegated the same season they finally got rid of Mike Ashley <laugh>

That's what's being reported. I doubt he'd take any less, given the wealth of the owners.

That’s crazy, bottom of the league with no wins, rightly sacked and going to be heavily financially rewarded for it

Not at all. We've seen divides crossed before but I still think there is a degree of nobility on standing on principles and wanting to keep a good rapport with fans. I always admire Pochettino for refusing to manage Barcelona or Arsenal. I doubt Pep would manage Man Utd or Real Madrid, Klopp manage Man Utd or Bayern or Simeone manage Real Madrid for that same reason - in my view there is definitely something more to be admired about men who don't cross divides because you as a fan know you were not just any other club or a mark on their CV - I would always employ men like that over a Steve Bruce, Jose Mourinho or a Sam Allardyce.

Unfortunately this is the nature of the PL and the legacy it leaves behind. Making money is far more important to most clubs than sporting achievements.

Supposedly had nearly 3 years left on his contract, which must've been renewed at some point.
His initial salary was reported as a little over £1m a year, so that must have gone up, too.

You have to remember that this is a club that gave Alan Pardew an 8 year contract in 2012.
He left after two and got the boot from 3 other clubs during that period.

And, of course, we'll get the usual suspects howling that we didn't bring any of those names in during the summer while ignoring that those same usual suspects shat on all three of them all summer long

One thing Steve Bruce deserves credit for is at handling the inevitability of his sacking with dignity

I'm sure a few of us remember how Ranieri was getting agitated by the death by 1000 cuts he endured at Chelsea, not least because hack journalists insisted on bringing up the subject at every press conference, and Bruce was getting similar treatment as soon as the ink had dried on the heavily-redacted government advice about how it's okay for the Premier League to assume all football fans are complete ****ing idiots who can't see through this deal

While that seems like damning with faint praise, it's far better than the bullish and/or increasingly arsey press conferences we see from some coaches whose sacking is an inevitability and they insist on going out in a blaze of sour grapes

Surely only the terms of his contract dictate what he is getting - why would he get a choice of what he would accept. My employer can get me rid of me tomorrow if I get to decide my severance package. Hello Crete holiday home.

We must have soured the memory of a few of your ex-managers then. Hoddle, AVB, Maureen.

Managers sometimes accept less than they'd normally receive, especially if it's truly mutual.
I don't believe that it is, in this case, but he might just want to get the **** out of there, as they hate him.

It's worth asking how much of that £8m is hush money...

Bruce could get a job with the local gasboard or similar. But if he screws up there they won't give him another job.....telling him to sod off without an 8 million to help him on his way. Bloody laugh isn't it? Useless manager.....and he get's 8 million for being useless. Think about that,Newcastle when you fill in your season ticket application! It's going to cost you!!!!!

The £8m will come from other, dubious sources. I doubt the season tickets have much to worry about.

I wouldn't say he was useless. He had them finishing midtable with little effective investment from Mike Ashley. The fact that he couldn't match the football of Benitez and the frustration boiling over from the fans from the failed takeovers led them to cast him as a bit of an Ashley stooge, but he took the job knowing the club was up for sale and that he'd be for the chop when that eventually happened, so was never in the easiest situation.

I don't know who they'll get though. I'd be very surprised if someone like Conte jumped straight into the role and any 'project manager' will know they they'll likely be asked to sod off once they've built the team up to top-6 level, so the owners can bring in whichever of the elite is flavour of the month at that point and win the league. So it's not an easy sell in the short term and good managers usually have options.

From the fact that they've not appointed someone straight away it looks like they might get a DoF in and appoint off the back of that, but I don't know what their results will be like under interim management. The owners can't spend money for a couple months yet and have said they want to do things steadily anyway and, besides, January is a difficult time to buy quality. I really think they might struggle to stay up this year.

Just bagged four goals for them today after his winner against Utd on the weekend.

Think they’ve picked a up a gem with him. Could be a very good long term Vardy replacement.

Disappointed we seemingly didn’t go for him, especially with Kane’s future uncertain in the summer - and even in the future.
