I have read it. In fact I wrote it. You are blathering on about either/or, and I haven’t said that and don’t think that.

I don't think we get constantly overrun in midfield at all, in fact I don't think either of us really know what you actually mean by that.

Your point about the number of midfielders is curious because whether it's 4-3-3 or 3-5-2, it's 3 in the midfield either way. The wing backs are not going to be adding numbers in the centre of the pitch.

This team has major issues and McCann undoubtedly bears a lot of responsibility for that, but the silver bullet solutions being suggested here don't make any sense.

We had KLP playing as a wing back, we have Emmanuel who is an excellent wing back, we have Elder who in turn would no doubt be an excellent wing back but we also have a plethora of midfielders that could fulfill those roles. If you don't think we have been getting overrun mind if I ask which games you've been watching, yes our defence leak like a sieve, and yes more quality would improve us, but for the love of God pretty much every game this season has seen our midfielders blowing out their arses after 60 minutes trying to cover the extra man disadvantage. Pretty much every game has seen us all calling for an extra man in there !

What is this extra man you're on about? Are you under the impression that other teams are playing four or more central midfielders?

They have ... some have played 442, others have played 352 against us .. full backs pushing up and overrunning our rigid 433, and is not under the impression, it's what I've witnessed. At least when we played 352 it allowed the full backs to push up and support our midfield. Even when playing against similar 433 playing teams we tend to get overrun, so let's make the most of what we have, play to what we seemed more comfortable with, and resort to the formation which showed as at our most comfortable.

Looking like it's a night for the faithful. Torrential heavy rain showers all afternoon in HU3. Wet and miserable out there and its dark by 4.00 pm.
    Looking at under 10,000 tonight.
What an attraction for any potential buyers looking on

442 is these days generally considered quite a bold shape, because of only having the two men in central midfield. Most managers tend to go for the security of three in there instead. You seem to be saying that 442 would actually give us more men in the middle. You talk about watching games and seeing it all with your own eyes, but if you haven't seen Coyle and Elder pushing up into more forward positions while playing 433 then I don't know where you've been looking.

And I still think this "getting overrun" thing is just a cliche without any real meaning.

You just have to look at England and see the approach that Southgate takes. Against lesser teams he uses the plethora of attacking talent and goes with a 4 3 3 or a a variation of that. Against stronger teams he tends to favor 3 at the back. He is flexible. McCann who others constantly point out is inflexible. Given that we do not have a "plethora of attacking talent" if he was to take the Southgate approach and take a cautious approach against stronger teams we should at he moment be playing 3 at the back all the time.

It's quite clear you have your views, however mine are polar opposites to yours from what I've witnessed, either way we'll agree to disagree.

The issue is there aren’t many weaker teams, if any, in the division than us.

433 we look ****e, 352 v boro we were ****e and got lucky, should have been 3 down before we got a huge slice of luck with the goal.

Its more to do with his tactics/personnel and the lack of leadership/quality also not having chance to play the same starting line up hasnt helped.

Still want him out though as he comes across arrogant and ****ing clueless, although the players are still playing for him which is odd if he is as bad as we all claim.

The reality is we have multiple problems!
With the way we play 4 3 3, our forwards are normally far too isolated from each other. Opposition playing out from the back often cut right through our 'press' (!!) of 4 which leaves the remaining midfield exposed / with huge gaps. Our set piece defending is on occasions a (sick) joke. Our manager is inflexible. We are missing experience and leadership.
And yes, most squads have more quality than we do. But, McCann & Byrne are failing to get the best out of what we have, and are too fixated on (or constrained by) the club's stated 'playing philosophy'.
Emmanuel is too good to remain on the bench, and even then hardly used. McCann can't find a way to use him, which is criminal.

We definitely aren't getting overrun in midfield much this season, for the most part, we've actually controlled games really well. Of course, it's not the complete dominance we had for most of last season but it's still fine. The problem is in the final third we're completely blunt.

I do agree with the formations bit. I do prefer us in a 352 but we won the game because Boro fluffed chances and we scored an incredibly fortunate goal. I think this ****fest over 352 is a little OTT. I'd agree but with Alfie out I understand it. I wanted Tom to play there but he's obvs not ready yet, I'd also like to see Coyle in at RCB, to bring Emmanuel into the side

This will be a tough game and already a 6 pointer. I’ve gone for a win - that’s blind optimism.

    Just a question
Why are we getting beaten? As you dismiss every suggestion made on here as to why
