Basically that. Of course we've shown in the past that we won't be held to ransom in that way, but it could conceivably create a trend for sticky negotiations in the future. As I said a few days ago other players can deservedly consider themselves equally important to our success. Take Virgil for instance - he and Alisson have transformed the solidity of our defence - would he be happy with another player earning twice what he gets? And even if the players themselves understand the situation there's always the agents whispering sweet nothings in their ears. Imo reason plays a very minor role in football finances. Incoming players may be influenced by the precedent when issuing their demands - though as we rarely go for established stars that may not be a big issue. Anyway, the best predictor of future behaviour is past behaviour, and so far FSG have been fairly consistent in keeping to their wage structure. No doubt we'll find out soon enough. (He might be rubbish by the end of next season. )
Looking back at Dribs post and what each player is reportedly on, i can't believe Oxlade-Chamberlain is on more than Mané and Neco is on three times what Jones earns (both the same age). Maybe the players aren't as focussed on the disparities as we are.
Theres a huge element of timing in wages. If lfc walk up to jones at 17 or 18 before his debut and lock him in he can be screwed for a time but Williams jogs in at 19 and was on an academy contract and has to be offered something then cos we didnt see his rapid progression. Ox signed a new deal not all that long ago where as mane signed a time before. Some guys get over paid 100% it's why origi and shaqiri were almost impossible to shift.
half the squad has signed new contracts recently which doesn't appear to be reflected in Dribs list . After all when was the last time Dribs posts were up to date
I was thinking this but Salah really is in a tier of his own - he's the best player in the world. No other player in the squad would be able to go to Klopp / Edwards and say I want £400k a week in wages. I don't think anyone else would have an issue with Salah being the best paid player at the club, and if they do, they're deluded.
GKs and CBS do not get paid the same as forwards. Look at real madrid wages. ramos was never paid as high as others even though he was up his own hole. VVD has a damned good wage for a CB. Marquinhos at psg is on 250k per week. alaba got a free so is on reputedly 375k per week at real. outside those two 200k per week for vvd is top of the scale. stones at city and varance at utd in the prem on higher (crazy)
Yep exactly, that's how footy goes unfortunately. Commercially, Mo is also a mega star, especially in the Middle East and amongst the Muslim community. And it's why I can't see why anyone in our squad who would kick up a fuss when it comes to Mo's salary.
people keep mentioning mbappae and haaland. guess what? the wages start at 400k, more like 600k when they move. to retain mo salah will be cheaper at 350k-400k the thing is finding the next mo salah might be even cheaper still over time, thats the skill of moneyball. If lfc can produce the next mo salah out of their arse pocket then great but i can say right now they are not at the club today. (not even kaide gordan sorry) We have produced the next adam lallana in harvey elliott (taking his place on treatment table nicely ) the next jordan henderson in Curtis jones. the next trent alexander arnold in neco williams (just you wait lads, just you wait) the next Robertson in tsimikas, the next matip in konate. I'm sure we can produce the next mo salah somehow.
