We believe it will ride on the softer side of good. Looks a good card with the maidens at the end of the card potentially being interesting for future prospects. Should be a lively day. Hopefully ours runs well and comes home safe and well.
Have a good day mate, good luck with The Toojumpa. Stay away from those lovely Welsh ladies (Rudeboy to testify)
Good luck, old boy. I see the Devizes crew introduce a new recruit (in association with Mr Nicholls) in the 2.20 - Gaulois. Prior to purchase 2 runs in Ireland, last term, saw him achieve a formline of 32-. Nicely related gelding as he's a half-brother to Alcala who won 12 races and was peak rated 152. Fascinating to see how he's get on and I'd rate him the most interesting runner at the meet.
Some Chepstow thoughts Nass: 12.00 - no comment, you'll know better than me 12.35 A trappy little contest with a few dodge-pots and two potentially unexposed lurkers from the Pipe and Tizzard stables. I think it is worth taking a chance on Beau Haze here - he was dropped back in trip for seasonal debut at Exeter and stayed on well for 3rd. The step back up in trip should be a positive, as will the conditions. Worth a little e/w dabble. 1.10 Tom George is really struggling at the moment so it is only a very tentative nod to Bannister. Dropped 3lbs to 122 after chase debut at Worcester where he was ridden very tenderly out the back, he jumped well that day and can hopefully take a step forward here for a yard desperate for winners. 1.45 The fav is very short and a chance is taken with Dan Skelton's War Call. He was 4th in a decent contest at Worcester last time and can step up on that to be competitive here. 2.20 The first of two very interesting legs of this maiden hurdle. Favourite Gaulois had a couple of placed efforts for Shark Hanlon in Ireland before moving to Paul Nicholls and having wind surgery - guaranteed to be thereabouts. Jetoile ran a fine 3rd at Cheltenham and the winner has since won again (although the 2nd was subsequently 7th off a mark of 117). Manothepeople should progress from his debut 5th if he settles better whilst The Street is an interesting debutant for Emma Lavelle and is related to Countrywide Flame on the dam side. The most fascinating runner for me though is Welsby. He won an Aintree bumper for Nicky Henderson 4 years ago and was subsequently off the track for 4 years. Having changed ownership and moved to Deborah Faulkner, he returned inauspiciously at Chepstow in October but left that form miles behind when finishing a fine 2nd to Mr Glass at the end of October. 2.55 Ballygoe was 3rd behind Mr Glass and Welsby last time so if Welsby goes well 35 minutes earlier it will be a good pointer to his chances here. The eyecatcher on breeding here is Young Butler, a half-brother to Put The Kettle On, who ran a decent 3rd over C&D last month and is fav this morning (short enough though at 11/8). Phillip Hobbs p2p winner Iceburgh Bay warrants respect as does Nicholls' Offyoupop but I'll stick with Ballygoe. Have a smashing day Nass
Catterick 1.20 Salamanca School Couldn't follow up his first win over fences last time out but race came propably to soon and wasn't able to lead from the beginning which didn't suit. Track and small field could suit today and Warren Greatrex amongst the winners recently.
That Welsby is highly interesting. As you say won a bumper for The Lieutenant in November '17 and then was off the course for almost 4 years! He reappeared for Deb Faulkner, last month, and has started at odds of 150/1 and 125/1 for her thus far! Today though Welsby's odds are just 9/2. That alone is eyecatching. The one that I mentioned in the same race, Gaulois, is massively on the drift - 11/8 out to 5/2. I take it that the Devizes crew and the horses many, many owners aren't on today!
Hope she is alright Nass - reached for the 3rd last and unseated (struggling as well I think - might well have been beaten?). She seemed to gallop off OK though
Bunny boru runs for lawny hill in the 3.25 Chepstow still a maiden but she gets them ready at a big price ew.
41 runners in 7 races at Ascot today. Isn't it time to reduce the number of races back to 6 and have a day off in the week. Seems the sport can't muster the fields you should have.
It’s the ground, all the ptps around the country struggling for runners. Most course don’t have the luxury of watering.
