Most Saints thing ever. It’s been a good run though, typical to get caught out by a new manager bounce.
The second half was pants. No avoiding that. But we were always playing them at a dangerous time. And first half we should have been out of sight. Oh well, draw a line and move on.
I'd have to disagree. Looking back on the thread, Ely was the one to replace and we've all been anticipating a big impact from Broja. Che was tiring after his international duties and whilst I would have preferred Tella, Walcott did OK. He kept plays alive and came closer to scoring than any other Saints player. Our biggest problem was the tiring KWP and Tino. If one was tired you can reorganise with Perraud but with both tiring it has to fall on the CBs hence Lyanco held the middle ground with Bedders and Salisu going wide to cover the full backs. At that point our best chance of scoring was getting Kyle and Tino forward
I was at the Villa game and you are right. Smith made excellent adjustments at half time and put us under pressure in that game. We should have been ready for the tactical changes for this game, but did not adapt well and we were hanging on for most of the second half. Tactically we were undone today and it won't be the last, given our inability to kill a game off before halftime.
Agreed with Broja and Walcott. Don’t blame him for those ones. The game had turned by then. But taking off Romeu in a game like that is asking for trouble. Should have removed Diallo instead, who was clearly struggling with the change in Norwich’s tempo.
Theo and McCarthy just dire. Putting Armstrong out wide lost the link up play from the first half. Really poor.
l am sure our reputation now proceeds us! Am giving nothing away that my 9 year old twins daughters do not already tell me.
Its funny because Villa fans complained that he was tactically useless, yet he managed to turn the tables on us twice, once we managed to get away but not today.
What frustrates me most is that Ralph should have expected them to do that and instead of making the early changes could have told JWP and Romeu to stop going short for the ball. This would have messed with Smith’s plan to press JWP and Romeu just outside our box and his players would then have been left with the choice of following JWP and Romeu back to the half way line and let our CBS have just Pukki pressing them, or support Pukki but leave JWP and Romeu unattended. Alternatively he could have just dropped Romeu into a third CB role, just to mess with their plan and give him a chance to receive the ball when facing forward and not with an opponent tight on his back. As I say, frustrating that Ralph didn’t have a plan for this.
After all I said about in game tactical changes, Ralph didn't get this right Walcott on for Che ?!?!?!?! WTF
Walcott was truly awful. Gave possession away leading to their corner for second goal. Couldn’t even get it on target when presented with really good chance to level. If anyone can explain to me why taking Ori off was a good decision they will have done well!
