It was a 'white flag ' moment in our season ... ... we should've kept attacking if they had eleven on the pitch. I don't want another manager sacked but we have no choice so may as well get on with it.
Thought about this overnight and conclude we are a Bang Average team in a Bang Average league being led sadly by a Bang Average manager, not a lot more I can say.
Maybe the players just need someone to keep it simple instead of Johnson and his Brentisms When Keane made his debut for Forest (at Anfield) said the following to Keane: BC: "I've watched you, you can control the ball" RK: "Yeah?" BC: You can pass it" RK: "Yeah" BC: "You can run" RK: "Yeah" BC: "Just do those three things"
He might be over-complicating things but, like I've said before, I've not personally heard Johnson say anything that I've not heard being said to non-league footballers. Its just he says it on camera whereas other managers don't. Clough was a master at simplifying things. He wasn't adverse to trying new things though, even if Peter Taylor did have to cajole him into it. He did say though "players lose you games, not tactics".
Agree totally but it is simple to spread the play keep the ball moving and run them around. The chances would have come. We just didn’t perform 2nd half far to casual and a well we’ve won this attitude. You’ve got to scrap in this league you get nowt if you don’t.
I'm severely fed up. It feels like we are in this league for eternity now - nothing we do gets us out of it
I know I do feel the same at times but after a mere 50 odd yrs of following them it’s the Sunderland way. We can only look forward to the next game and hope for better. I think Johnson is a dead man walking another **** show on Saturday and he will have to go.
First season I can remember is 1982/3, first game I went was Dec 1984 (Man Utd at home). We've had some good times, some bad times and a LOT of mediocre times (Mick Buxton, mid 90s). It's NEVER been as bad as this. Staring our 5th season in Division 3 square in the face if we don't change something and quickly
I said before this is a Bang Average league, were having an awful run at present and are still in the top six which is quite incredible, if we'd picked up half the points we've lost recently we'd be top or there abouts. There is no one in this league to fear but we're currently making a right pigs ear of it, is it the manager or the players or a bit of both?
There are lots of ways of putting it. Brian Clough said "its players that lose you games, not tactics" one of the non-league managers that I know said "you're only as good as the players that you have available". While I disagree with that last quotation to some extent, because I've seen that manager produce some excellent results with players playing well above their natural level, the success of a team is a combination of the players and the manager. To add another quote, this time myself, "solely blaming the manager for poor results is like being **** at FIFA and blaming your PlayStation controller".
