I agree we've been weak on crosses. That's something that has to be dealt with on the training ground. Not sure I agree that we've got the players for 352 though. Gooch could play at wing back but it would also mean no place for some of our more attacking players.
This won't help his cause a great deal. Stewart has been one of the few shining lights this season...
Christ he works harder hence why he isnt scoring as many as he ball chasing down the wings . The team need to work smarter not harder
Proof the wee man has lost the plot when he's digging out our most consistent player (and one of the hardest working)
Not sure he's the most consistent, but he's certainly one of the most hardest working. Can't think what coaching manual LJ is getting this from like.
If we'd won it'd be fine to try and push players but given the ****e of the Shrewsbury game it just sounds like he's passing the buck. He should be taking responsibility publicly and pushing them privately.
If he is digging out Ross Stewart instead of looking at himself and the absolutely calamity of the tactical set ups then he really has lost it. Of all the players to even make reference, to do more, you just wouldn't mention Ross. The fact he has scored so many with such a poor set up is an achievement it itself. If we don't pick up, he will be away in January. Plenty of takers. Comments from LJ like this won't help either.
So he's slated Ross' "desire, spatial awareness, upper body strength and movement" all in one go and said he needs to "liven himself up a little bit at times". I think I'd be pretty ****ed off if I was Ross.
I know where you're coming from and you're right, there has been no improvement by changing managers. However, most people on here wanted to see the back of Parky because they felt he had taken them as far as he could. I've thought long and hard about this overnight and I feel the same way about Johnson. In my opinion, we have a good squad of players, who if moulded into a team that suits our talents, could easily finish 2nd to Rotherham. It's not the players, it's the shape of the team that's the problem. All Johnson has done to try to address the slide is change personnel. Evans has been ****e, but Blackburn fans told us that he played well in a midfield 3 but struggled in a 2. This is just an example of playing to your strengths. Playing 3 in the middle with 2 wing backs would make us harder to break down. Crosses into the box have been a problem, so having 3 in the middle, with the wing backs dropping in would make us more solid in dealing with those crosses. Not sure zonal marking works either. 3-5-2 would suit our personnel better, but there's no sign of Johnson adopting that. Post of the week
Sadly ... ... we don't look a threat from set pieces. We don't get behind defences and pull the ball back for players. We don't break away from our own half. We don't win the crosses we throw into the box. We don't move the ball fast enough around the edge of their area. We don't create space for shots. That's mid table at best I'm afraid.
i think AoB is in more need of a 'kick up t'@rse', stewart is simply not getting the service he was whereas AoB has shown he can be a lot more effective than he was against shrewsbury. simply throwing an off hand challenge to your main striker is not going to change the team unfortunately, you gonna need a lot more than that LJ and it needs to come from your work on the training pitch.
I am intrigued by this idea that Ross' "spatial awareness wasn't as good as it normally is". Is spatial awareness an ability that varies from game to game? Is it one of the clubs' normal metrics for assessing a player pre-match? Are we any good at assessing a player for time-variable spatial awareness? Or is LJ talking bollocks?
prolly one of the new 'metrics' that the data approach takes into account...only data approach i want is 'can he pass to a team mate and get a ball into the box for the strikers'.
The manager is making statements similar to what we have all heard before when they think they will soon to be sacked managers, illogical , silly, and baffling He is very good at blaming everyone but himself, but, has the owner actually got the balls to sack him.?
I think our team is lacking a hard man in 3 key positions down the spine of the team. Need to address this in January or LJ could be out of the door at the end of the season.
10 goals in 18 starts and winning 95% of headers, always holding the ball up and always showing for the ball. I'd call that consistent
He's had long enough to create a style of playing and an identity imo. Any manager can have a poor run but recover if the team all know what they're supposed to be doing ... ... looking at last night they don't.
