    Project #ExpectationDowngrade in full swing..

‘It’s very difficult to make any promises on (January spending), in the sense we will definitely spend money and sign players,’ he said.

‘You have to attract the players, they have to want to come and they have to be the right players to improve the squad. That is why January is an incredibly difficult window to recruit players in, especially when your league position is difficult.

‘I can't make any promises on that, but I can promise that the people above me, the owners, will support the team and support me in trying to achieve what we need. That’s all I can say at this time.

‘It would be foolish of me to make rash promises or statements. My priority at the moment is to get the best out of the players we have.’

I don't believe you! Now they're the richest club in the known universe and beyond, players will be queuing up to play for them.

    See here's the list - https://www.footballtransfers.com/e...10-who-do-newcastle-buy-transfer-news-targets

They were lining up Conte but he laughed at them as he waltz into the Spurs job. The next target was Rangnick who they were close to signing but he also wanted nothing to do with them before walking into the Man Utd job.

They're now lining up Coutinho in January according to the mag board. I suspect they'll sign Todd Cantwell from Norwich, instead.

    and he'll turn them down.....

I'd actually laugh if they signed Coutinho. He's exactly the type of signing I'd like them to make - massive transfer fee, massive wages, barely played in last 2 or 3 seasons and well passed his peak

Shearer thinks they need to win their next two games to have any chance of staying up.

So they'd need to win two games, on the trot, when they haven't managed one on the trot all season.

Shearer seems to love loading pressure on Newcastle managers doesn't he, wonder why.

Yes I mentioned Bert and his errors but unfortunately tagging doesn't work across boards.
Especially for Woy since he's banned.
Although one of their cronies may inform them :D

Well if they don't beat Norwich, who are the weakest team in the League by a bit,( though I'm pleased to see their last three results mind,) who exactly are they going to beat?

They need eight wins, maybe even nine, as do all clubs. But it's not eight out of twenty five, as around eight of those games will be very tough games and might bring four or five points in, if that

So it's seven or so out of the rest, and the numbers start to get tough.

The thing is, in another season, I would be really enjoying their struggles, but to me now they are irrelevant apart from being a never ending sauce of mirth. They are not a football club.

But whatever they are, they will also have a number of players who know that they will soon be bombed out, and who will be making sure they don't pick up a bad one which would ruin the next years of their careers.

As the old Chinese curse has it , " May they live in interesting times"

This is going well, and this is only one of the replies. I also find it unbelievable that the maggots have the nerve to even put that tweet out.

Irony is lost on this lad, just because GA said footballers don’t want to live in Newcastle.

So he has blood on his hands because he said players don't want to live in Newcastle, which is ridiculous to say under any circumstances but given their current owners ?

They need to get used to it. Press, other fans, other clubs, will all keep going at them. It will never stop and has not even got into proper gear yet. They are the perfect story for any journalist wanting a headline or more.

There is also practical and a moral side to this.

The practical says that clubs will be reluctant to help in any way at all in terms of transfers, even to the extent of cutting their noses off, though I imagine they will just extract absurd fees for average players.

The moral is there in very big fluorescent letters. They are a reviled club now, and I'm sure there has never been so common a sentiment held at anytime in football. It will never go away.

We all know millionaires don't want to move to the NE, why should millionaire football players be any different.

Defenders of Newcastle will always claim it's a party town which is fair enough ...

... but that only appealed to players when their wages weren't much different to the higher earning locals.

These days privacy in a much more important, for incredibly wealthy players, than a city centre full of pubs and slappers.

Although there are a few exceptions they could look at signing.

they are happy to tell the world they are the richest club in it (the world).

we all know rich = inflated transfer fees and wage/personal terms + agents cuts/fees/persuaders which adds up, in many cases (if not most) to anyone willing to take the money rather than anyone that fits into a team...thinking players will sign because they 'want to' is as deluded as it gets, every single player approached is going to have to do some soul searching and decide whether the money alone is enough or if they should make a stand and these days if they do not make a stand they WILL be shouted out as nothing but hypocrites, mercenaries and those with little to no morals will not have a problem of course.

there is the added problem that the current 'big six' and the television rights holders do not want more clubs to share the wealth and the market, once that market begins to dilute then the wealth follows and none want that to happen, this could cause further problems when looking for players to sign...there is the thought that it makes no difference because they 'are so rich it wont matter to them' but there is also the thought it could work massively against them, rather than the players they would want they could end up with the only ones that would go there...then eddie howe has to somehow make them into a team.

honestly not looking through red and white specs here, the above are very real problems that they could face...the other side has to be looked at as well of course and players may indeed want to be part of it and they may well go on and become a team but so many things are stacked against them right now it does not look likely.
