This was the show I had tickets for, had to give them away due to a knee op scheduled for yesterday, cancelled due to lack of staff, but my knee is so bad now I could not have made it anyway , have a good one Brian
On balance, you probably picked a reasonable night to miss. His voice was fried at the end of a UK tour and he spent a considerable amount of time sipping honey and lemon drinks. so, not a classic. My enjoyment wasn't helped by picking the wrong queue at the bar and missing the first number 'The Saturday Boy', one of my favourites. However, he's never been dreadful, so it was still a decent night, with storming versions of 'Milkman of Human Kindness', 'Levi Stubbs Tears' and 'New England'.
The Damned was an answer to a question on University challenge last night and they didn't get it , yoof of today
Mrs B didn't pick Nick Lowe but yes, I got them all. I've been reading this lately, so if I didn't, I'd want shooting...
Today, news reaches Brian Towers of a new publication that I should be desperate to purchase.... https://www.awaywithmedia.com/buy-b...1oq1pXb1vGgX1rPp_sPUzP4R4dN0VJWFSIjupQuq-s4qw please log in to view this image It's a limited edition of 1,000, £75 coffee table book, with photographs by Erica Echenberg...autographed by hand, by Brian, Dave Rat and Captain The autographs alone are worth £75...or they were...until they were made available for £75 in a limited edition coffee table book. Now, they're probably worth half of that. I'm probably going to pass.
Try to imagine my house that's not my home Try to imagine my Christmas all alone That's where I'll be, if I buy it My tears could melt the snow She'll go mental, if I buy it, I'll have no place, no place to go I will be lonely this Christmas With my book to hold I will be lonely this Christmas Lonely and cold It'll be cold, so cold With my book to hold This Christmas Merry Christmas, Captain.
I went to my first gig a week before they played at The Screen on the Green. That was probably my last realistic chance of seeing them, as they only played one more London based gig, in Uxbridge, if you discount the jaunt down the Thames. I was at a gig by Lydon's lovely brother, Jimmy of the 4 Be 2's, where it was rumoured that the original 4 would play (probably '80, maybe '79). They didn't I wasn't having the reunion gigs then and am still happy with that decision.
Takes me back to a client gig during Britpop, where one of the employees in my desk bay was a devotee. Loadsa WUM materal (Suede are a crap Ziggy era Bowie impersonation. Gene are similarly so for the Smiths etc) , He did at least like our Elastic-a banter (playing "Connection" with elastic bands) .
