Everyone has been driving right on the edge. Hamilton nearly oversteered into the wall earlier in the session. It's that sort of track.

True but once he locked up he should have backed off.

It also looks the sort of track where pole position should be a huge advantage.

Wouldn’t be a race driver if he did though.

Also easier said than done, when you're understeering into a wall. He needs the throttle to regain grip there, or he's tagging it anyway.

Yeah, it's easy to say while watching on TV. But how much damage has he done to the car? If he needs a new gearbox he's getting a 5 place grid penalty which will compromise his race.

True , but if he needs a new gearbox and RBR protest and win against Lewis , he gets 5 places as well .

And if Bottas gets penalised for wandering into Raikkonen, Charles gets pole <laugh>

To state he has no say at all is pretty flimsy IMO, as champion his is not the normal employer/employee relationship. If he was genuinely sincere he would say plenty I'm sure. He's paid lip service to the victims of Grenfell for the sake of his image (#justiceforgrenfell) but remains silent when put to the test. Maybe there's money involved. Bottas, as far as I know has made no comments about Grenfell, if he had he would be a hypocrite too.

His reply to the question about racing in Saudi was rather weak (not comfortable, not my choice) especially from "someone who wants to be remembered for being more than just a racing driver" with regards to human rights, diversity and racism but here he is actively involved in sportswashing.

Saying nobody is having a go at Bottas and Vettel only Hamilton kind of infers there is an agenda other than he is a hypocrite, but that would be quite wrong. He is a driver who regularly uses his position to campaign. Nothing wrong with that, but being English it's only natural that he will get more attention in England than the others. Particularly if what he says and what he does don't really sit well together.

Okay, what do you want him to do? Break his contract with his employer and give up a championship, just because you think he should do more? He's doing what he can realistically within the constraints of his contract. Man, at least he's trying to make *some* point, and not just ignoring it?! And that's to be criticised?

He does want to be remembered for being more than just a racing driver, hence why he's set up the foundation, which is already actively doing a lot of good to bring opportunity to a more diverse series of people in engineering etc.

As I say, what do you want him to do?

The sponsorship thing is a team decision, not Hamilton's. And the team are 'dealing' with it (not well, granted - it's a tiny bit of sponsorship, that won't make much difference, I don't know why they don't just drop it, but the Kingspan thing is somewhat/a lot more nuanced than "they were to blame for Grenfell"). Why should it just come down to him though? You're playing the man, not the ball, which happens the WHOLE time with Hamilton. Why doesn't Vettel give up the race rather than wear rainbow t-shirts and organise karting races for women? He's got a lot less to lose.

I personally would rather credit both of them for at least saying *something*.

This. I'd prefer that F1 didn't cater to the literal worst of humanity, but they'll chase money wherever. Short of refusing to participate in the sport, there's a limited amount that Hamilton can do, and he's doing it. Good for him.

I'm in the strange spot (seemingly) of liking Hamilton more as a person than as a driver. He's a great driver, no doubt, though not really my favourite (more Prost than Senna, if we're digging into the archives) but he has also demonstrated time and again that his head is in the right place. Dresses weird, but we can't be perfect.

Don’t know much about the Kingspan row but I did see this, a couple of days ago.

Kingspan have stated that they played no role in the design or construction of the cladding system on Grenfell Tower, and that a small percentage of their product was used as a substitute without their knowledge in part of the system which was not compliant with building regulations and was unsafe.

Yeah, it was 5% that was used without their knowledge, in the insulation of the building.

Big crash at start of delayed F2 race. Delayed because of barrier repairs after a big crash in the Porsche race.

I really don’t like this track.

Red Bull taking a bit of a gamble by not changing Max's gear box. If the car breaks down he's all but handing the title to Lewis. We'll find out if they made the right call shortly.

It’s a risk, sure, but even with a DNF for Max, I wouldn’t call the Championship with any certainty.

It would be like Saints with a 3-1 half time lead.

I'd say more like Man City with a 1-0 lead.

Part of me is really not looking forwards to this race , and it’s nothing to do with the championship .

Ref Max gear box , I doubt RBR would risk a dnf for a 5 place penalty .
