Relatively accurate summary, although Hughes must be given some credit as we stayed up when he took over from old clownie. Had Pellegrino stayed we would have definitely gone down.

Disagree........... One big mistake was calling Ely for a foul and free kick leading up to the goal when replays showed that he won the ball cleanly.

Seriously. We have a good but not perfect manager, and we're in a spot which is not exactly conducive to getting good managers. We have no money, are actively looking to find new ownership (with all the peril that entails for a manager), and our squad isn't exactly enticing, either. Do people want Steve Bruce? Because this is how you get Steve Bruce.

    Scott Carson

Karius (apparently neither he nor Adrian are second choice for Liverpool)

I’d even take Lee Grant or Freddie Woodman over playing Harry Lewis. Woodman played all of last season for Swansea so is much closer to the level needed

Have we had an emergency keeper since Kasey Keller?

In any event, it might not matter. Under the EFL's rules, Harry Lewis would be considered an acceptable available keeper (due to his games in Scotland) and hence an emergency keeper would be denied. But I don't know if the PL adopt the same definition of what an acceptable available keeper is.

The Athletic have reported saints might be looking into an emergency loan. I’d like to think they wouldn’t have written that if it was impossible. I know Dan Sheldon seems utterly uninterested in saints and football in general but I assume he would have checked

    Can’t get over today.

It genuinely feels like our worst result in ages, and we didn’t even actually lose. I am fuming

Yep. Off the top of my head, this is the worst I've felt about a result since we lost to nine man Newcastle. And we've lost or dropped points a hell of lot since then.

How about Henderson or try to buy in January if There is no chance of gettingJohnstone. He's frustrated by not getting game time at Man Utd.

We can't continue with McCarthy. Today he blew any chance of getting a new contract.

Anyway, regardless of our opinions; last week was Ralph’s fault & this week, McC. At least all is clear without all our widely optimistic views.

Just watched the Sky match replay and I couldn't see when or where Mac was hurt. The commentators made no mention of it. I was at the game and certainly didn't see anything happen, just Lyanco was talking to him at a goal kick, but there was no indication of a problem.
On Google there is no evidence that he has signed a new contract, the last reports just said he was in final talks.

I was tending to have a rare melt down moment myself, the result was so disappointing, but I found myself looking for a scapegoat, then it got a bit complicated as more information came to light, there wasn't just one person to blame, there were several culprits, which all conspired to create the situation at the end. Having just watched it again, there was plenty of good, among the bad things that happened. It was a draw, which seemed like a defeat, only time will tell how important it was.

    A report dated 12th November 2021 says

Southampton are reportedly close to extending Alex McCarthy’s stay on the South Coast.

McCarthy, whose current deal is due to expire in summer 2022 at the end of this season, is expected to sign a three-year extension with Saints according to the Daily Mail.

The 31-year-old joined Southampton from Crystal Palace in 2016 and has made over 120 appearances for the club since.

Starting every Premier League game for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side in the 2021-22 campaign, it appears McCarthy has re-established himself as Saints’ number one goalkeeper, with Fraser Forster now on the bench while in the final year of his contract, also.

McCarthy has kept five clean sheets in the Premier league so far this season, with three coming in his last four games.

Only Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy and Manchester City’s Ederson have kept more Premier League clean sheets than McCarthy so far this season.

It’s unclear whether McCarthy will sign a new contract to remain a first-choice goalkeeper for Southampton.

That contradicts the August reports, and nothing has come out of the Official Club channels.
