Pompey exited their FA Cup at the weekend, but their form in the league has been mightily impressive.

Danny Cowley’s men are looking to collect three points for the fifth game in succession when they host Sheffield Wednesday this evening (7.45pm kick-off).

It means they sit ninth in the standings after 20 fixtures – a single place and point behind their opponents.

The Owls had the weekend off after their own FA Cup hopes were ended by Plymouth in a first round replay.

They were beaten 3-0 by Hartlepool in their last outing, although it was a much-changed side that exited the Papa John’s Trophy.

Darren Moore’s troops have their own decent record to protect, having not been defeated in League One since the start of October.

You have to go back 18 years to find the last meeting between the two sides, with Wednesday earning a shock 2-1 win on the south coast in April 2003.

That temporarily saw Pompey put the promotion champagne back on ice, although they did secure a place in the Premier League by beating Burnley a few days later.

    TEAM NEWS

George Hirst and Joe Morrell both returned to training on Monday after recovering from a sickness bug.

But Louis Thompson is out with an abdominal issue, joining Clark Robertson (hip), Ryan Tunnicliffe (hamstring), Paul Downing (calf) and Jayden Reid (knee) on the sidelines.

Dennis Adeniran, Marvin Johnson and Liam Palmer could all return for the visitors following a spell on the sidelines.

The Sheffield Wednesday side might feature former Fratton loanees George Byers and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.

    HEAD TO HEAD

    Overall

    Pompey: 27 wins
    Sheff Wed: 26 wins
    14 draws

    At Fratton Park
    Pompey: 18 wins
    Sheff Wed: 9 wins
    6 draws

    TICKETS

Pompey fans can secure a seat for tonight's contest online here or by visiting the Anson Road ticket office.

Fratton Park is now a cashless stadium, with contactless payments will be required in all food kiosks and hospitality areas, as well as for the purchase of tickets.

Portsmouth Football Club respectfully ask all supporters to adhere to the Code of Conduct to ensure an enjoyable and safe matchday experience for all.

Half time score 0-0. Been an entertaining first half edged by Pompey, We had a number of chances to score with both George Hirst and Ronan Curtis going close with shots well saved by the Owls keeper. Early yellow card for Patterson for a nasty foul on George Hirst.

Hopefully, we can go on to score in the second half.

Final score. 0-0. Very good game to watch ! Reeco Hacket was booked for a foul in the 50th minute. In the 69th minute, the Owls were rightly reduced to ten men with Massimo Luongo red carded for a shocking challenge on Ronan Curtis.

Both Reeco Hacket and Ronan Curtis had superb shots well saved by Peacock-Farrell. Ellis Harrison replaced George Hirst in the 84th minute.

To my mind, we deserved the three points.

The only negative was the result!
For much of the season we have failed to create enough good chances from the amount of possession we have had but in this game we created the chances.
We also played some 'easy on the eye football.'
It could have been a very different result if the Wednesday goal keeper had been anything other than brilliant.
Despite an improved contribution from Azeez the return of Morrell and/or Thompson to the mid field should lift us another notch
