Looking forward to a trip down to Cheltenham tomorrow, will be slightly more sedate than a visit in March but a fine opportunity to concentrate on the horses. Any pearls of wisdom always welcome.
I think back on the lash wins again today at Cheltenham but super citizen at the bottom interests me with the jockey booking.
Couple of bets for me today: 12:40 Cheltenham - J'Ai Froid 11/1 Win. 1:15 Cheltenham - Mengli Khan 44.82/1 (Hills boost) Ew 4 places 3:00 Cheltenham - Super Citizen 50/1 Ew 5 places (Skybet) 3:35 Cheltenham - The Wrekin 7/1 Win Small ew double on the ew ones and small win double on the win ones.
Happy Birthday, Lieutenant Henderson. The steward has just supplied my mid-morn GnT so I ask everyone to join me in raising their glasses via a toast to the great man 'Happy Birthday, Lieutenant Henderson. May God bless him and save him'. The old boy has though been done a terrible misservice by the newspaper. They claim he's 71. Surely, surely, that should be 41 or at a push 51.
11.55 Doncaster Seaborough Hold up performer who usually makes the frame and talented conditional knows the horse well. Will get a good target to aim at with Sea Prince likely to force the pace. Should run well for each way purposes.
I see that Polly Gundry claims to be 'nervous' ahead of Santini's bow for her later on this afternoon (2.25). I wish the old boy the very, very, very best but to use a footballing analogy Santini's move must be akin to a player transferring from The Arsenal to Chippenham Town. Huge weekend for Harry Skelton in those colours as he's also on My Drogo of the morrow.
Not the most inspiring card ever run at Cheltenham today but there are a couple of races of interest. I was very taken by the way Hartur D'oudaries finished his race on hurdle debut at Warwick and will be looking for him to follow up impressively in the opener today (a poor enough price though). The 1.15 looks an incredibly competitive heat and should make great viewing. It will be fascinating to see whether Espirit Du Large can show any of his old sparkle, a comment which equally applies to Mengli Khan but Mr Henderson's other runner, Broomfield Burg, could make an absolute mockery of his opening mark of 130. Again, not a very appealing price at around 5/2 though in what is a very competitive heat. In Santini's race I think Quarenta could outrun his odds on seasonal debut. Best of luck everyone
