He will cost more than we would spend unless we suddenly going to be chucking £30m+ about on players. He is going to have his pick of clubs when he goes, somehow I doubt he will pick us (even if we could afford him)
I don't exactly see us getting the likes of Adeyemi, nor do I see us joining the Cult of the Big Splash. But if we have money to spend, I can definitely see us being more aggressive in targeting the same sorts of players we were aggressive in targeting when we first reached the PL: those with the talent to play for an elite team, but who are not yet judged to be ready to play significant minutes for such a club. That's a player that mostly evolved out of our price range as we remained stubbornly committed to paying 2015 prices, but should be accessible again. My pipe dream is Luis Sinisterra at Feyenoord. It's possible that he's too much of a hot commodity now to be a realistic target, as well, but as a tricky attacking winger he also fills a role that's often well-filled at big clubs. He's also the sort whose value would triple basically overnight if he could demonstrate that he can be anywhere near as good in the PL as he has been in the Eredivisie. Also, he's just stupidly fun to watch. The man would happily dribble through people for 90 minutes if you let him, which might not seem like a ringing endorsement, save for the bit where he succeeds at a staggering rate and has a shot on him normally reserved for naval guns.
Coutinho to Villa on loan. Apparently paying less than 50% of his wages for this season and includes an option to buy. Could be a masterstroke if Gerrard can help him get close to his best form.
Another attacking player to fit in their system that they already can’t fit them all into Does he take the place of their record signing ? Or their promising emerging youngster ? It amazes me that a club like Villa can sit there with Ings, Watkins, Coutinho (likely at top earner), Bailey and Buendia I know they need a squad but all of them would feel they should be good enough to start for Villa He is an amazing player but this is a Man United type signing - one taken due to opportunity not what they need
It's been a while since he's been any good right? Hopefully he flops. Big name for Villa, presumably a big part of that was the Gerrard connection.
Oh absolutely. I can’t get my head around how they can afford it and keep them all happy. And whether it really needs them to get in Europe sooner rather than later You’d expect Coutinho’s wages will eat up a large chunk of a wage budget that could be used elsewhere. But perhaps Barca want no loan fee which makes it more financially viable Seems like Bailey is being binned off already (unless he is injured and I missed it). It was always highly unlikely that all 3 of the people brought in with the Grealish money would work out
You’d think so. Which means they have spent 35m on a player who now won’t play. Which was my point - imagine being in that position AND it not being crippling Because we have to a lesser extent with Hoedt, Lemina, Boufal, Carrillo - or perhaps greater extent when you add them all up. Blimey we wasted so much money
"We can go in the winter to try and get players that normally we'd have to wait until the summer for" - Ralph. Cue massive, unnecessary excitement.
Two things about Coutinho. Cutting in from the left and curling a right foot shot into the far corner of our net, is a memory that is stuck in my mind from his Liverpool days. How far will he roll when Romeu gets within touching distance of him?
In fairness how can you read that and not come to the conclusion that we are looking to add to the squad in this window? He could potentially be referring to the January window in general, but it would be strange to mention that right at the start of January if he wasn't referring to this window.
With the Rona running through Man City at the moment, we might get a chance to take a look at Delap and/or McAtee this evening.
Coutinho to villa, trippier to villa…. but the really big news of the window is we extended Caballeros loan! Excited is not the word.
