2.05 Wincanton-Grey Diamond @ 4-1 [Bet 365] Like the jockey booking of very decent conditional taking 3lb off
There will be an inspection at Newcastle tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. Hopefully, racing will go ahead there. 13:23 Newcastle - The Paddy Pie (Nearly two years since this Beneficial gelding won, but was a good C/D winner in March 2020, and needs to recapture this form. LTO at Carlisle, 79-days ago, inclined to jump to the left, which spoilt any chance he had. Might do better on the left-handed Newcastle track. Highly-competent and experienced northern jockey Henry Brooke takes the ride for the West Yorkshire trainer Sue Smith. Best price at time of writing 8/1, freely available). Note: Not to be confused with Mrs. S.J. (Suzy) Smith the West Sussex trainer! This Sue Smith is married to the irascible Harvey Smith. Stable is at Craiglands Farm, High Eldrick, West Yorkshire. All the best tomorrow everyone!
Dancing Shadow Sandown 3.0, ew @ 25/1. I do like these chases for the ol timers. Dancing Shadow is 13 but has shown already this season that he retains a bit of ability and crucially appetite for the game. With the forecast weather they could be walking home after the last and DS has both proven stamina and some form on bad ground. Good luck all.

1.15 Sandown Redzor @10/1 Skelton’s only runner today and 7lbs lower than his last rating. Worth a few quid?
I am mildly intrigued by the ex-German horse Whizz Kid in the Tolworth. He ran with some success for Andreas Wohler and Peter Schiergen and could spring a surprise at juicy odds.
Haven’t posted in a while but wow what a horse that is! Where does he go now or straight to the festival ?
They could try and get him a handicap mark for the Betfair Hurdle - the BHA normally allocate a handicap mark to a novice hurdler after 3 runs but they can do it after just 2 if the horse has finished in the first 4 in those 2 races - this would apply to Constitution Hill. If we take Jetoile as the benchmark today, and he ran to his 125 rating, then the 12 lengths margin would put Constitution Hill at 137 with a big "P" behind that number. It is reasonable to think that Jetoile ran a career best today though, so we could take third-placed Mr Glass (rated 129) as the benchmark - that would push Jetoile up to around 136 and Constitution Hill 148. That feels more like the right ballpark. If the BHA give him something closer to the 137 though, they might be tempted to go Betfair Hurdle and then Supreme. Otherwise straight to the Supreme I would think - he is such a relaxed horse and is very fluent over his hurdles so you wouldn't think he needs more experience prior to the festival. I assume it will be Supreme, not Ballymore, despite him running right through the line on testing ground today. Sir Gerhard's 11/2 makes more appeal than the 9/4 Constitution Hill for the Supreme to my eyes though - been there and done it at the festival - but it is good to see a potential superstar on this side of the Irish Sea.
I think you're right - I just wonder how they might factor the ground in? Jetoile proven on soft but Mr Glass just one bumper run on heavy, otherwise good ground. I think upper 140s is where I would have him - what mark do you think might tempt them to go Betfair Hurdle?
Can I ask a question. Do people think Jonbon and Constitution Hill are the top two, 2 mile hurdlers, in the UK (apply the 7 lbs allowance in the case of any mares under consideration)???
Yes, by a decent way too. Would love to see one of them in open company in the UK given the lack of top horses over 2 miles. Oddy, think the ground was in favour of the second and that is what was so impressive. I think he’s properly top notch and I’d have him over SG at 2 miles. Jonbon is interesting as he’s looking very good too.
They must be pretty close. I don't think Epatante is the horse she was and after that you are looking at the likes of Not So Sleep and Sceau Royal - decent but nowhere near top class. That Christmas Hurdle at Kempton was very poor for a Grade 1.
