Discussed many times on here before, and everyone seems to agree that the original deal / contract / lease agreement is now no longer fit for purpose. The big problem in my opinion is that the lease is / was for 50 years. Now all sides can see the problems (from their own position) and the chances of them coming together to renegotiate is slim, if it is allowed at all.
Would a prospective buyer be this far down the line without having seen the hurdles of the SMC, from what I have gleaned so far Ilaci is a shrewd operator, he is keen to get this over the line ASAP, and even with the Allams who have an alleged history of moving goal.posts at the last knocking, I would be amazed if this fell through now. Pappa Allam looked delighted last night to be back at the stadium, and in company of Acun, I rather think that due to the SMC, it's a different kind of purchase to normal club purchases, hence why the t's and is are taking time to be finalised. I'm not ITK, and never have been, it just appears that Ilaci is taking his time to ensure the deal has no hidden surprises, unlike the Allams who rushed in and then found out the club owed more then they first realised.
I'm not ITK either but this is due diligence which was supposed to have been completed before Christmas, are we not simply waiting for the EFL? Both parties appeared very convivial together last night.
Funnily enough I, also knowing nowt, suggested a while ago that sometimes business people (and politicians actually) talk things up as if they’re ‘done’ to put pressure on other parties that need to do their bits, and also as you say to mean if it all falls through the finger pointing is much easier and everyone is more willing to accept they had done everything they could do. TWT
Technically it isn’t a big deal. The lease is an asset of the SMC and the whole transfer of a Limited Company into a Community Interest Company isn’t that hard as the lease is a simple novation. The benefits are huge compared to the situation we have now. Whilst the prospects for the club to be in community ownership are low, this really is not the case with the stadium and it could be the route to its success as a community asset in the future. With a viable rent model, some reasonably small scale development and more use as a venue. It really could turn be turned around. It’s too late for me to do anything about it now, I have other priorities to consider.
The lease is in the name of the SMC. It should not be affected by a change to a Community Interest Company as effectively the landlord is the community.
Exactly that. They were getting on great in the directors box and that was plain to see. I think that removes any mention that the goalposts have been moved. The Southampton takeover took a good while to be formally ratified so it's understandable why ours is too
With all the attention being on the new bloke, I wonder if the Allams felt like spare pricks at a wedding.
I doubt it. The deluded fools probably felt all the cheering was for them. You have to be pretty thick skinned to rile people so much and appear unconcerned.
Anyone know if Acun has stuck around after yesterday's game (hopefully to get the deal over the line) or flown out again?
