Chris Wood is an underrated striker, who works his ass off! Hopefully Newcastle don't get him. But why would Burnley sell to a relegation rival?
It’s hilarious that they are turning a bit on Howe already, but I have to say it felt like the wrong fit. Newcastles biggest issues are in defence and that was the issue that Howe never managed to address at Bournemouth. He is a manager you bring in if you have a problem scoring, not defending. Although admittedly the injury to Wilson is a problem for them. They seem to be focusing exclusively on attack in the links so far whilst they leak like a sieve (15th in the PL for goals, but joint worst for goals conceded). Tarkowski should be their number one target while he sits on only 6 months left on his deal. Burnley will be very unwilling but Newcastle can pay whatever price and he is 99% likely to leave on a free in the summer otherwise, you would feel negotiation is possible.
Apparently the rumour around Wood is that Newcastle haven’t been discouraged in their initial approach. And this is from Burnley not the player agent It seems crazy that they would sell but stranger things have happened
Equally it is by no means guaranteed that just signing some “better” defenders and dropping them into the current side and Howe coaching set up would help anyway Surely to stay up they needed a defence first, pragmatic manager and then maybe a splash on one attacking player that would get them the winning goal in small margin wins Howe was an odd choice but was clearly not their first. Probably not even their second
Just to expand on Newcastle's search for any player who will take their money, it would appear that they are casting their net very wide, but the temptation of playing in a relegation-threatened team, who are likely to be in the Championship next season, may not attract anything like the players who will make a difference. Clubs with players who may be sold will expect a very high price, simply because Newcastle now have stratospherically rich owners, and they will probably end up with players who are disgruntled at their current club, or players who are nearing the end of their careers. In short, having lots of money, but not having much chance of immediate success, will probably result in poor player choices, and no team spirit. Alternatively, I could be completely wrong, and they smash everyone. Apart from Cambridge United.
Yeah I quite like him. Still got 18 months on his current contract so it depends on whether or not Burnley want to cash in. I would be surprised if Liverpool let Origi go, with Salah and Mane in Africa and the potential for Covid to wipe out any other strikers they have.
I don't know who Man Utds normal cup GK is, but he didn't play last night, nor was he on the bench. So must mean he's coming to us. He might be injured for all I know
I would be soooooooo happy with Henderson coming in as, IMHO the goalkeeping position is our major issue and needs sorting urgently How many more points would we have if we had a decent Premiership quality keeper?
Would love this, but he'll be on big money for Utd, so the wages would probably be an issue. I'm no mathmetician, but this could however be a case of: new owner + money X average keepers = Daily echo rumour (let's hope not)
I don't think he'd be on huge wages and if he really wants to play regularly he might be open to a pay cut.
It would be interesting to see whether we could move someone out prior to the summer if we really are in for Henderson It doesn’t seem likely Perhaps we could convince them to make McCarthy or Fraser their back up. I’d expect (from what I have heard) that Alex would love to go back to being back up and not having to play. Bit of a relocation for him though. Far from London etc And they still have Heaton who is apparently unhappy with how far he is from the team. Which is crazy to me as he went there with De Gea and Henderson ahead of him. Perhaps he assumed / was told one of those would be going.
Rangnick said last night that Henderson told the club two weeks ago that he wanted to leave, but United said no. He wasn't in the squad last night due to illness, apparently. Rangnick also said the club's stance hasn't changed, so it doesn't seem like United will sell. Certainly not in this window anyway. If Henderson goes in the summer I'd imagine there would be a range of clubs willing to pay much more than us. West Ham seem an obvious one, possibly Tottenham now Lloris is 35, or even Newcastle if they stay up, which I think they will. The only way we sign a player like Henderson is if we do what we did with Tino and accept a buy-back clause. Bigger clubs won't be as likely to accept those as we would be.
There aren't even any rumours linking us to Henderson. These are articles just stating the bookies have priced us as favourites. No way do we have Forster, McCarthy, Willy & Henderson. That will be around 300k/week on keeper wages. No chance.
