"I’d expect (from what I have heard) that Alex would love to go back to being back up and not having to play" These were your exact words, what have you heard that indicates that he would love to go back to not playing?
My bad. Completely forgot about my full exact post from earlier. Funny how I used brackets to express slight tangents/vaguer stuff and it was indeed that part that slipped my mind That’ll teach me from posting throughout the day. Was only focusing on my more recent posts
I also didn’t realise I phrased it as “back to being backup”. Which explains the points about him not being backup for a while. Really does change the point being made. As “going to being backup at a European team” is very different. Definitely didn’t mean anything by “back to” as that was a clear error / misremembering his role at prior clubs Was he back up when we first signed him? And I thought he’d slipped to backup at palace but again that could be just a bad memory There is no value in claiming any kind of ITK status as you just get absolute pelters for it. Not least this whole discussion has spun from a hypothetical suggestion to the hypothetical signing of a player who we are very unlikely to get due to their wages and potential other suitors
David Bentley didn't like football. He said he did it purely to earn money. As someone else said, Davy Propper has just retired at 30 because he doesn't like it enough. I find it hard to understand why, but it does happen.
I’ve known a couple of people like that. One of my good friends was at Villa for a few years as a youth, never really was interested in football or that bothered. Got released and was playing a pretty good level at 18 with us and was offered a full time contract by Woking. Said he didn’t want to live in Woking and liked playing with his mates so turned it down and never went on to play at any pro level at all Another guy was offered to come to a trial game organised by Bournemouth when we were about 18/19 I think. He wasn’t even going to bother going but was talked into it by the manager/other players about what a great opportunity it was etc He drove down to Bournemouth, said he drove about for around 25 mins, couldn’t find the training ground so just drove home. He now works in Sainsburys stacking shelves, and doesn’t regret it at all.
If anyone was watching it last night, you could actually see the moment that Marcus Rashford decided that he didn't like playing football any more
I get that was in blue and tongue in cheek. IMO I wish more footballers or 'famous sportsmen' were like Rashford. He is doing the off field work not to raise his profile but because I think he actually cares and realises what a precious position he is in.
Yeah I think it’s probably unacceptable to say anything of substance critical of Rashford at this point other than “he didn’t play well in game x” which is really equivalent to, “he had a **** day at work” Imagine being a genuinely wonderful person, willing to do the work and take awful, constant criticism, still trying to improve the world and also happening to be pretty good at football. He has worked hard for his spot and is a great player. Now he’s leveraging that to really help people. He’s a great man.
Wow, That is absolutely bonkers... Allowing there current direct relegation rivals to steal there biggest goal threat. Lunacy.
You just know he will score against us when we face them. The thought of playing against Wilson and Wood is a scary thought...
If we are scared of playing against a strike force of Wilson and Wood then we might as well volunteer for relegation They are good players but it shouldn’t be a scary thought And it is very different from their dreams of Vlahovic or Isak or the like
They are both great strikers.. And each compliments the other, Let's not suggest that those two wont score a few goals.. as they have the option now of playing long balls or balls between the lines. Obviously... I hope to be proved wrong.. I just think it is a very shrewd signing.
