My dad had one. It was the version before the sloping window one. It was made in 1958. It only had three forwards gears and no synchromesh. Usefully though, it had a starting handle. It wouldn't go up a hill in Devon when we were on holiday. We all had to get out and empty the boot to reduce the weight. We then carried the suitcases up the hill while my dad inched the car up it. Oh how we laughed.
The steering was virtually non existent, you’d turn one way then wait half an hour for the car to turn that way….
I do travel from the New Forest to Hull for games. 250 miles in 4 hours 10-15 minutes. 3 hours 55mins to the Humber Bridge toll. Average speed 60mph. I have done it quicker. If I was driving tomorrow I would go via Lincoln and Newark, join the M1 at Leicester and leave at junction 15a. Stop for MacDonalds for breakfast. Easy 4:20 to Bournemouth.
Hmm I know someone who did here to Birmingham City Centre in 1hr 17mins so it’s possible (but very reckless…the person I know certainly wouldn’t do it that quick now, oh no)
Top effort that. Quickest we’ve got over there was just over 90mins, with two lots of average speed checks to deal with. Still made KO though,
My first and probably favourite car, I bought it from one of City's assistant physio's, I had it a number of years and had very little problem with it.
