Laporte was clever in that he wasn`t standing static in a line with all the other players - rather he was on the run when the free kick came in, hence he beat the offside trap, and got ahead of our defenders. I don`t know why other teams don`t do the same TBH.
I wonder if that was his final league appearance for us (either at home, or full stop). I don't know what the situation is with McCarthy's injury, but 17 days until our next league game - and 27 days until our next one at home - might be sufficient time for him to recover. And given that only he, not Fraser, has been given a new contract then it's likely that Ralph will restore him to the starting XI at the first opportunity. In almost any other match, Fraser would have easily been my MOTM with that performance. But quite obviously that went to Salisu with his sensational display. Not even Fraser could match it. Still the FA Cup for Fraser to play in, mind you.
Haven't always been a fan of big Fraser but since he's had a run of games he's done pretty well and probably is playing better than Alex was before he was injured. But he is indecisive at times and like you said has been caught out twice recently. At the moment we have 2 ok ish first team keepers and could do with an upgrade in that area. The problem is, there is no such a thing as a faultless keeper. Even the big team's keepers make howlers from time to time and maybe we just have the standard of goalkeeper that matches our budget.
Although there have been reports that Alex has signed a new contract, there is no evidence on line to confirm it.
I'm surprised how long it took before the high line was exposed by a runner like Laporte. Now that it has, the question is do we persevere with it?
Somewhat predictably Salisu didn't make Garth's team of the week. The two defenders who scored did. KWP also had an excellent match, but overlooking Salisu...
Crooks said he prefers defenders who are reliable week in week out. First all it's team of the WEEK you bellend not the season. And second Salisu has been pretty damn good all season with the occasional crazy game. What a ****.
We know when Crooks does pick Salisu, it would only to say something like the commentator did on Saturday; "The whole Stadium was chanting his name, but at the back of Saints fan's minds they will know his display will be alerting the big clubs"
When you’ve got too much money you can just want anything that looks shiny He’s a great player for a lesser team, but now he’s a misfit trapped at a big club by a huge pay packet I hope he manages to escape at some point
We can only BUY players that match our budget, but we can then CONVERT them into players that exceed it eg Sally, Tino, KWP, JWP etc We need a better keeper to get into the top half of the table. Macca is too inconsistent and Fraser is too immobile and not good at penalties Fraser is my no1 at present but he needs the protection from our defence which he is getting at the moment
It’s o nly a game ... I'm surprised how long it took before the high line was exposed by a runner like Laporte. Now that it has, the question is do we persevere with it? (Not606 won’t do replies today!?) Other teams have tried and failed It’s what makes free kicks against us stressful. A few disallowed goals this season as we’ve made it work Brighton almost cracked it a few times but we survived The trick is to divert attention with the offside players and score with the one who was just behind them Broja fell for it and stopped to appeal Ralph will be talking to him about that
