Well, that was a good night. A couple of sterling performances from the youth, a couple of our fringe players like Kirk and Souare had a good run out, and Burstow's header sets up Leko for a winner. Penguin must be happy.
Well played the kids. 2 great saves by Harness. Elerewe and Burstow were class and Henry worked himself to a standstill. Innis played 75 minutes and was solid, so I'll stop moaning about paying a tenner.
Burstow will surely leapfrog Davison in the pecking order now, and Elerewe will soon be challenging for a first-team place. A mention too for Watson, who was arguably MOM with the way he kept the ball moving and held things together.
There could be a lot more to come from Burstow. He's at his best in the penalty box, and his assist last night was an example of that.
Shame this is away from home, but surely worth an overnight stay and a strong team, to give us a good chance of being one game away from another Wembley appearance...... The Addicks were paired with the League Two side during the last eight draw which took place live on TalkSport on Thursday morning. Jonathan Leko's injury-time winner against Milton Keynes Dons sealed the Addicks' passage through to the quarter-finals at The Valley on Tuesday evening, leaving Charlton just two wins away from a potential trip to Wembley. Meanwhile, Pools booked their place in the last eight by beating Bolton Wanderers 1-0. The tie is set to take place at Victoria Park during the week of January 24th. Information regarding a finalised date and tickets for the game will be announced once confirmed.
I had very little interest in this competition until now, and no interest at all in MK Franchise. As far as I'm concerned it's a chore when we have to play them in the league, never mind the Under 21's Trophy. But I have a lot of time for Hartlepool Utd. So this is an attractive draw I think. Also, the EFL Trophy does become slightly less of a pain once the stupid group stage is over. For me it's Wigan's to lose. Or Rotherham's. So I hope they get knocked out before we have to play them. Have a great day out, any Addicks fans travelling to Hartlepool please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
Sutton v Harrogate is one of the other quarter finals, so I’ll take the winner of that in the semi’s if that could be arranged.
Hartlepool may not be the best team, but they are my favourite fans, and have the best nickname, The Monkey-hangers. A final against them would have been perfect, but never mind. Tonight's team will be interesting...
I’d really like a very strong team for this and for us to go all the way and win this trophy. At this point in our history this is our level so any sneering about this competition is misplaced.
I like Hartlepool, and I don't mind if we win or lose. Win and we still have a puncher's chance of a consolation pot. Lose and it's romance of the Cup (trophy), underdog triumphs and all that. Neutrals will be backing the monkey hangers. Just have fun out there tonight lads
The Premiership days are gone and they ain’t coming back any time soon. This is our level now and it’s the only thing we can win, so let’s give it our best shot with our best team.
Not Innis and Chuks though, just in case. I'd like Elerewe to get a game, maybe alongside Pearce. Henry deserves a chance in midfield too, and Watson was arguably MOM in the last round. .....................................just seen that Elerewe and Henry line up for the U-23's this afternoon so that's that idea gone ahrt the window.
Ok, Pearce for Innis and Washington for Chuks then. Burstow to continue his scoring run and yes, Watson is a good call in midfield. So….MacGiillvray, Matthews, Clare, Pearce, Famewo, Purrington, Gilbey, Morgan, Watson, Washington, Burstow
