Not bad, only Leko instead of Clare, otherwise Jacko has taken my advice….

Conor Washington starts this evening’s Papa John’s Trophy quarter-final at Hartlepool United as Johnnie Jackson makes seven changes.

Adam Matthews, Jason Pearce, Jonathan Leko, Alex Gilbey, Ben Watson and Ben Purrington also come in from the off, while new signing Juan Castillo is named among the Addicks’ substitutes bench.

Craig MacGillivray continues in between the sticks, with Matthews and captain Pearce joining Akin Famewo in Jackson’s back three.

Leko and Purrington are expected to occupy wing-back roles with Gilbey, Watson and Albie Morgan manning the midfield, behind a front two of Mason Burstow and Washington.

Castillo is joined on the bench by Stephen Henderson, Ryan Inniss, Sean Clare, Corey Blackett-Taylor, Elliot Lee and Chuks Aneke.

Charlton: MacGillivray; Matthews, Pearce (c), Famewo; Leko, Gilbey, Watson, Morgan, Purrington; Burstow, Washington

Subs: Henderson, Inniss, Castillo, Clare, Blackett-Taylor, Lee, Aneke

1-1 Burstow. We’re second best so far.

Extremely fortunate to be ahead at H/t. Two smart finishes though
Let's hope that the monkey hangers don't find their shooting boots second half

Right result. I would have bet a lot of money that Lee was going to miss his penalty. He didn’t disappoint. Useless player - please send him back. Along with Leko and Famewo. Time to see who is good enough for next season, but at the moment we are a million miles away from promotion. From league 1 FFS.

Yes, I watched with junior Penguin and said before Lee's penalty I didn't think he'd score. But we were lucky to get to penalties, second best throughout. MacG the far busier keeper.

I feel for those Charlton fans who made that very long journey, and I salute their dedication

Hope some of the players at least enjoyed the experience, despite the result.
But I cannot say I'm taken aback about us going out of this competition.
As far as I'm concerned it just doesn't matter.

I like it when our academy teams win, but I'm not bothered when they lose.
The EFL Trophy means no more to me than that.
This trophy competition is meaningless to me, and I consider it a nuisance that our first team is required to play in it.
What little merit the old JPT had was discarded when the ridiculous group stage was introduced and youth teams of bigger Clubs were allowed to compete.

On the pitch, when the whistle blows, all football teams should be equal.
Requiring our first team to play the kids' teams of bigger Clubs in this competition is frankly an insult.
If Arsenal can play their U21's, why can't we?

I know we were not actually knocked out tonight by a kids' team. Good luck to Hartlepool. But that isn't my point.
The Papa John's Trophy means nothing as far as I'm concerned, for the reasons I stated above.
I'm not upset that we are out of it, and I wouldn't have celebrated if we had won it.

    Just my view...

I understand your points Lardi and the issue you raise with the U21’s is a very valid one. BUT this is now our level and the only chance of success we have for the foreseeable future. Our squad is nowhere near good enough to get promotion from league 1 and this is despite TS having two full transfer windows to improve it.

Not so much upset about being out of this Cup, more upset about being outclassed by a L2 club. It seems our midfield is fecked without Dobson. We couldn't put together the sort of passing movements 'Pool did. The players we've got don't seem capable of playing the system Jacko wants us to play, and it wasn't for lack of effort. Chuks seems to have gone backwards already.

That was my main concern when I saw the team sheet - No Dobson and fuking Watson playing
:headbang: The sooner Watson goes the better , he’s a thief

Apparently he's quite valuable behind the scenes, and may be found some sort of coaching role.
