Can the mods change the title of this thread? Otherwise it’s another Ings issue where every time someone posted on it some of us thought something positive had happened Please please save us from that again
Well fair play to the board. We are doing all we can really. As good as he has been, it has only been for about 4 months, personally don't think he is worth much more.
This is a change from one or two days ago where it was asserted that nothing would happen until the summer window. I guess it didn’t exclude the possibility of a bid because if that is rejected then that statement is still true
Sometimes you have to speculate to accumulate, he is still a novice but he already does things on the pitch that mark him out as a special player. Obviously we can't afford to go too far with our bid but I think that the lad's potential and therefore value ceiling is very high.
It was nice whilst it lasted. I’m going to just enjoy his performances till season end. Kay sera sera …..
And to Broja. Probably wouldn't make any difference ultimately to the players decision, but it's got to feel good that after a few months we are trying to make him our record signing. It's an interesting balancing act for Chelsea because it's not like they need the cash. He's had a good first few months as a PL player, has a lot of potential, but is also not performing to that level every game. £25m already seems like a max offer from us and the higher the buying price, you would assume the higher the buy back price but I guess that doesn't really matter to them either.
Yeah I mentioned before that since the new owners journos have consistently mentioned that we will still be looking for “Tino type deals”. I took this as buying young talent with a view to developing and then probably selling them on for a profit. The question was how much money there was for these types of deals as if Broja continues to develop then he should be worth more than £25m in a couple of years, so fits the remit, it was just whether we could put £25m in as the initial cost. Be good to know if we aren’t just looking for “Tino type deals” in the cheap as **** category and can spend a bit more to get some of the more well known young talent.
Is it ? Because TalkSport = Alex Crook? Fab isn’t usually wrong on transfer related stuff - although all he said was a bid was being made. But in Fab vs TS I know who I would believe Either 25m seems like the highest we will go and unless there has been behind the scenes negotiations rather than the old “public rejection of the first bid” you can only assume Chelsea want more. And I don’t think we will go higher either. And it is debatable as to whether we should
Agreed. To be honest, it’s a totally reasonable stance if this is the case. 25mil would be a great deal for all involved even in this crazy market. Any higher and it starts to feel like a huge gamble for such a young inexperienced player.
This is a difficult one. We have him for the season which is great. Were we to bid to buy him, I think the only real benefit there is sending the right message to the fans (as tomw24 says). I can't see Chelsea letting him go but may be swayed with a first option to buy back as they have for Tino. Both of these players will want a big move by the summer of 2023. So Whilst Tino is not a loan as such, I view both of these players as definitely 'transient'. So I'm just going to enjoy watching them play in the red n white for as long as they are here with no long term expectations.
Romano doesn't tend to tweet much about Saints transfers. Not sure whether that is because we are small and boring or because we don't like to leak much info, but either way, you'd imagine his source is probably from the Chelsea side of this, rather than ours? If it's true, you'd imagine that £25m (as an opening offer) is not our limit, which would be encouraging.
Probably because we did bugger all in recent years. This is the first window when we can spend without having to sell first.
It’s an opinion based on the progress both players are making. I would expect talents passing through the club to honour at least 2 years of their contract (or stay 2 years if a loan is involved at the start). After that, I don’t think they owe us anything.
