In the opener at Huntington runs Kellahen who once was a Derby hope for former connections in Germany. The horse has won some decent races here on the flat and has been an honest and game animal from the front. New connections payed 67,000 Euro for him. Aidan Coleman booked for todays debut. Interesting!

The last time I had a wager in a Pertemps Qualifier I managed to back the sole runner who failed to qualify in a field of 7 so nothing for me in the Pertemps Qualifier (3.10 Huntingdon) later on. However, I would imagine delirium will exist on the forum should its 2nd favourite owner, Mr Ponsonby, get his horse qualified in said event. Ooooooooooooooooh, I'd anticipate the rapture being orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrf the old scale.

Who Dares Wins is though the complete outsider in the field of 9. Any nominations for who will finish 6th today?!?

Bells Of Peterboro is the one that catches my eye in that Pertemps Qualifier (in terms of the final, that is). He is currently rated 128 and they will be wondering whether that will get him a run in the final - he may well need to win today and get a 7lbs hike to get in to the final. But he is clearly heading in the right direction.

Here are the bottom-weights in the final for the last 6 years and their OR:

    Milliner (126)
    Doubly Clover (131)
    Aspen Colorado (134)
    A Great View (135)
    Clondow Cian (137)
    Rathpatrick (135)

Looking at some of the qualified horses you'd think anything rated below 135 will be sweating to get in. If I can be arsed, I'll knock up a list of qualified horses later on. Should make interesting reading.

What a brilliant jacket Charlie Deutsch is... I cannot remember seeing him not present a horse correctly at a fence... now getting the rewards he deserves...

Yes unusually for a horse from that stable in a sprint missed the break!

Thanks, Oddy, for your efforts, but what a weird sort of contest this Pertemps thing is? Sacre Dieu, so many horses that it boggles the mind! I'll just wait for the Final at the Festival, and probably will seriously consider backing Sporting John. We'll see. <ok>

Very late getting going today, but in the last at Lingfield (16:20) a modest and speculative e/w on newcomer Saint Peter. Expensive purchase, if nothing else, and is certainly well-bred.

No worries Swanny - I'll probably knock up a separate thread on the final as I do find it very interesting (Agathta Christie novel and all that)

Serves me right. Horse had no idea what it was all about and was on-and-off the bridle all the way. Stone last in the end. Hollie Doyle's mount e/w would have been a much better option in hindsight! Oh well, onwards to the weekend! :emoticon-0101-sadsm :bandit:

What today's Qualifier??? If so, overall would have thought it was a substandard renewal. The winner was running off just 119 so would have little chance of getting into the Final - unless he wins another couple of races between now and mid-March. As for the rest they were dispatched pretty easily by the winner and you have too say they looked a pretty exposed bunch.

In saying that though was chuffed to see Who Dares Win place and in doing so qualify for the Final for Mr Ponsonby. A lovely old stick (Who Dares Wins not Mr Ponsonby) I hope he heads for the Final where he should, as always, do connections proud. 40/1 is currently available re that heat.
