And the point is that it’s a niche system to play and clubs like Liverpool, City and Barca from back in the day coach it/coached it as a first resort. It’s not IMO necessarily an easy thing to have as a backup especially when you haven’t got plan A right yet.

 

Agree with all that but because Kane combines the roles of traditional 9 and false 9 in one player we have to play a different system when he's out whatever we do. I am not actually against having a traditional striker as Kane's deputy but I am equally happy if we don't.

 

I agree with that. We can't sign everyone we want so we need to concentrate on improving the starting XI.

But I think it’s easier to find a player who can do the bits of Kane’s game that are more common, like holdup play and trying to bully defenders physically, than it is to find one who can play false 9. The former is easier to coach around too, and we have multiple players who have demonstrated they are reasonably capable of playing accurate long balls to make that part work.
