I'm hoping I make it to my parents back in the UK in time for the first race - airport security has been on strike today in Berlin but hopefully no impact to my early morning departure to Manchester tomorrow.

Day 1 has a bit of a strange look to it in my opinion:

Supreme - looks a very good renewal, probably race of the day and my gut has been saying Jonbon for a while now. Mighty Potter could well prove best of the Irish and that could be enough to win it. E/W saver
Arkle - possibly missing a real superstar and I have given Edwardstone as my lay of the week. I am potentially being a little harsh on him but I have that Alan King losing stat in the back of my mind. Common sense says Blue Lord but my gut is saying Saint Sam who ran really well here last year
Ultima - I do like the Frodon angle and I think Bryony might well be able to dictate from the front. Maybe Fantastikas (another trainer on a long festival losing run though) or maybe One More Fleurie who I can see coming alive on nice spring ground.
Champion Hurdle - Honeysuckle all day long. If anything beats her then hopefully Tommys Oscar for the fairytale.
Mares Hurdle - lost all interest in this after Quevega's retirement really. I'd like to see Martello Sky win.
Fred Winter - my fancy Dr T J Eckleburg is currently one of the reserves so I will be hoping he gets a run. If not I think Too Friendly and Forever William (Alan King again though) could go well for the home team but of course we all want to see whether Gaelic Warrior lives up to the hype.
National Hunt Chase - reminds me of the old "home internationals" as it is Ireland v Wales. A tentative nod for Vanillier who has the "been there, done that" T-shirt from last year.

Probably change my mind on all of these in the morning. <laugh>

    15:30 Cheltenham - 15:30 Teahupoo

(Quite possible this Masked Marvel gelding is one of Honeysuckle's main rivals? Robbie Power on board for the Gordon Elliott yard. At 10/1 in four or five places at time of writing, it could be a reasonable e/w wager?)

Here we are then, team, on the cusp on another Cheltenham Festival. These are my thoughts re tomorrow's contests.

1.30 At the commencement of the term I was convinced that Jonbon was the answer to this puzzle however despite him being unbeaten, over hurdles, I now believe that at least a couple of others have gone ahead of him in the pecking order for this race. CONSTITUTION HILL has looked so good in winning a pair of Sandown events (the latest at Grade 1 level) and I believe he will be the one to return the prize to Seven Barrows. After a couple of blips Kilcruit returned to form last time out and he, to my eye, rates the danger.

2.10 EDWARDSTONE would be my most confident pick at the entire meeting so I take 'The Wiltshire Warrior' to win the Arkle. I've loved the way that the 8YO son of Kayf Tara has jumped, travelled and then quickened in his last 3 races (a Grade 1 and a pair of Grade 2's) and can see him being far too good in this heat. Especially as I really don't think his opponents are the greatest bunch, of novice chasers, ever assembled for an Arkle. Another plus is that his yard know how to win this race having won 2 previous Meghan Markle's.

2.40 In my opinion this looks borderline impossible. The '22 version of the Ultima is Tough with a huge, huge capital 'T'. It does though contain within one of my fave stats of the year - 9 of the last 10 winners, of the contest, wore some form of headgear. Am not going to heed this though for the very simple reason that I can't get excited about any animal wearing headgear in this years renewal!!! Will though nominate a horse who I've really come to love this term (especially his last 2 starts - runner-up finishes in Newbury's Mandarin and Warwick's Classic Chase) namely GERICAULT ROQUE. And the recommendation would be each-way. A plus re him is that the Pipe barn won this race in '16 and '17. The negative must be that the old boy is 5 lbs out of the handicap. But I do rate him higher than his current perch of 133 so this I think can be overcome. Yards to avoid in the past 10 terms, re this event, have been Venetia Williams (0/15) and Nige Twiston-Davies (0/10).

3.20 I believe that Adagio and Appreciate It have the potential to be as good as Honeysuckle in this year's Champion Hurdle. However, what I don't believe is that either of these geldings have the ability to give her 7 lbs and beat her. Although I like Appreciate It it should be noted that he does have 2 major stats against him. (i) No horse has won the Champion Hurdle, after winning the Supreme Novices' Hurdle the year before, since Bula in 1971 and (ii) not since 1981 (Sea Pigeon) has a horse won the Champion Hurdle without a prep run post Christmas. I think HONEYSUCKLE is a very poor price but do think she will win the race for a second time.

4.00 Below par edition of the Mares Hurdle, this term, in my view but given the way she romped home in the '21 Mares Novice, at this meet, I'll select TELMESOMETHINGGIRL. The 7YO daughter of Stowaway hasn't won since but she really impressed, last time, when coceeding weight all round. Oh and a note to connections of Burning Victory, as I've said many times before, run the old girl in The Gold Cup in 3 months time. As someone once said - 'You know it makes sense'.

4.40 Two yards who haven't excelled in this race, over the past 10 years have been Alan King (0/16) and WP, I say WP, Mullins (0/13). This years renewal seems to revolve around whether or not you believe Gaelic Warrior from the latter yard is ridiculously well handicapped on 129. I'd be more inclined to say yes he is and so for that reason my pick would be the aforementioned GAELIC WARRIOR. Has that 0/13 stat against him but the form of the 4YO son of Maxios' last race in France looks top quality stuff. Time has told us that run is now probably in excess of a stone better, in fact, than a 129 rating.

5.20 Usually am very keen to see this race but this time around can't get animated in the slightest over the NH Chase. Especially as it has cut up to just 7 runners. When it comes to selecting the likeliest winner I'd side with RUN WILD FRED trained by Elliott, I say Run Wild Fred trained by Elliott.

    Good luck all.

1:30 KILCRUIT backed a year ago at 16/1 and it looked a "tear the ticket up job" after his hurdles debut. However, they didnt rush him and he is improving rapidly. Ran a fine race in last years bumper and that often gives the clue to next years Supreme winner.
2:10 COEUR SUBLIME was classy over hurdles and improved with each run over fences. Definitely looks a bit of value.
2:50 CORACH RAMBLER a horse I really like. Not ideal coming here on the back of an unseat but he would have won that day and be half the price he is now. Has course form in the book.
3:30 HONEYSUCKLE first leg of the multiples.
4:10 INDEFATIGABLE but only because its an obsession
4:50 HMS SEAHORSE the favourite could be a blot on the handicap but so could this one and is a lot bigger.
5:30 RUN WILD FRED could have a memorable duel with Stattler but I think Fred has a touch more class.

    Good luck everyone.

1.30- A strong looking Supreme Novices this year and you could make a case for the first five in the market. Dysart Dynamo won the
Moscow Flyer with ease and I'm backing him to take this for Mr Mullins.
2.10- Pretty average Arkle it has to be said with no stand out candidate since Ferny Hollow was ruled out. Edwardstone is a terrific jumper but his course form is a negative for me. Blue Lord is 3/3 and has the right age profile to take this for a trainer with a great record in this race.
2.50- Ah the first handicapp, where do we start. Going to throw two darts at this. Irish trained horses have a horrible record here but I reckon Death Duty can go close today. Corach Rambler is a C&D winner and runs of a decent mark.
3.30- Honeysuckle should win this and all the dangers appear to be in front of her and not behind. She is very short though so ive only added her in a four day acca. Teahupoo is improving rapidly so backed him w/o Honeysuckle at 4/1
4.10 - Queens Brook's third in the bumper two years ago sticks in my mind and she is my choice in a open mares race
4.50- The Boodles is normally a punters graveyard for favourate backers but Gaelic Warrior could be the best handicapped horse this week even though he is short enough at 9/4. I've also backed Champion Green Ew for young Joseph
5.30- I placed two ante post bets last year one of which was Run Wild Fred at 12/1. He has plenty of experience over fences which is vital for the longest race of the festivel
Hope everyone has a great week and find a few winners

At this rate I will be doing a load of patents. There's just so many I fancy, it's hard to know what to leave out for me.
There's 3 in practically every race that I have done before, and I don't really want to leave any of them out.

I really like Does He Know from the Kim Bailey yard. Backed the horse 2 times this season when it won. Has shown that he can handle the Cheltenham course so I think has a nice each way chance in the Ultima.

    4.10 Cheltenham. Mares Hurdle.
I can't think of a more competitive Mares Hurdle and possibly the most difficult race of the meeting to pick the winner.
With tearaways Stormy Ireland and Burning Victory in the race, stamina will be at an absolute premium and I'd be looking at a horse guaranteed to get three miles- the race will be attritional.
Queen's Brook certainly looks attractive, and Mrs Milner, having competed at three miles against the "big boys," should relish this stiff test.
However, Martello Sky comes here a bit unfancied and under the radar. Her sire, Martaline, has produced good stayers like Dynaste, Agrapart,Vanillier, Ramses De Teillee, Snow Leopardess, etc.
In all her races, she has showed great resolution and I expect her to be there at the death when many will have cried 'enough.'
    A very hopeful bet,
Martello Sky at 16/1 Each Way.

Morning all, hope everyone is excited :)
Going to keep it very simple and back 4 of W Mullins:
    DYSART DYNAMO 9/4
    BLUE LORD 9/2
    STORMY IRELAND 9/2
    GAELIC WARRIOR 9/4
Have also backed these 4 in Skybets extra places, so in the unfortunate event these don’t all win :) I can still get 4/1 for finishing up to 5th place.
Good luck everyone and have a great day.

1:30 - Kilcruit 8/1. Also have it at 14/1 in a treble with RWF (10/3) and Tiger Roll (4/1 for XC) using a free bet.
    2:10 - Blue Lord 9/2 & War Lord 40/1 Ew 4 places (with bet365 free bet)
    2:50 - Gericault Roque 12/1 6 places (PP free bet) & Doctor Duffy 33/1 ew 7 places
3:30 - Honeysuckle. Have tried to take it on in almost every run its had but i'm starting to think the horse is bomb proof. Have this one in some accas and bookies specials. Epatante at 16/1 is surely one of the best ew bets of the entire week. 6/1 without Honeysuckle and 7/2 without Honeysuckle and Appreciate It.
4:10 - Tellmesomethinggirl 4/1. In my opinion the most competitive race of the day. No strong feelings on this one.
4:50 - Gaelic Warrior 9/4. Also have it in a couple of accas. Have it in two specials with skybet also. Vauban (Triumph) and Gaelic Warrior both to win at 11/1. Blue Lord (Arkle) and Gaelic Warrior both to win 18/1.
5:30 - Run Wild Fred 7/4. Also have it at 10/3 in a treble with Kilcruit (14/1) and Tiger Roll (4/1 for XC) using a free bet.
