Whiteheads in Hornsea was voted the best in the region
Coming in at number one on our list of the best fish and chip shops in Hull and East Yorkshire is Whiteheads in Hornsea. The ever-popular chippy took an impressive 13 per cent of the vote to claim the title of the region's best.

Speaking to Hull Live, supervisor James Smith said: "It's fantastic to hear that our customers have voted for us and are loving our food. I'm so pleased!

"It's going to be a very busy day, but it always feels like such a special occasion serving our customers on Good Friday. We can't wait!"

    Kingfisher - Endike Lane, Hull
Next on our list is Kingfisher on Endike Lane in Hull. The popular chippy took 10 per cent of the vote, making it another of the region's best.

Speaking to Hull Live, the team at Kingfisher said: "It’s an honour, we know it’s hard for many to change what they’re used to, but we have been so grateful to hear recently that many people, after trying us, will continue to use us over their previous options.

"We are tremendously thankful for all of our regulars and their constant words of encouragement and their efforts of word of mouth in recommending us, we can only hope to continue making them all happy!

"Like all chippies we anticipate Good Friday greatly, it’s our busiest day of the year and the pressure is always on! Covid did unfortunately affect our previous two Good Fridays, but this year we are open and taking walk-ins as usual.

"We hope to deliver the quality we always strive for and reach as many of our customers as possible. We always operate with a limited menu but always ensure to add the essentials!

"Rest assured all hands will be on deck and we have more staff on than ever before to help things run as smoothly as possible! We can’t wait to serve you all!"

East Park Chippy received a large number of votes
East Park Chippy on Holderness Road received a huge number of votes in our poll, making it another of Hull's most popular fish and chip shops. Good Friday is the busiest day of the year for us, but we are always up for the challenge!"

The Funky Fish - Welton Road, Brough
The final spot on our list goes to The Funky Fish on Welton Road in Brough. The popular chippy is the only fish and chip shop from a West Hull village to feature on our list!

Speaking to Hull Live, the team at Funky Fish said: "We feel honoured to be voted for by our customers and would like to thank them all for taking the time to vote. Since 2020, lots of you have become family to us.

"We strive to turn out great fish and chips every time, which can be difficult under the present climate, which at a drop of a hat can cause supply difficulties. We try to be a bit different too with Taco Tuesday and our chilli and mint fish."

"Good Friday will be manic - a frenzy of fish frying and super-fast service. We have been taking pre-orders on collections and have put our delivery service back on for the day.

"Ebony, our star larker at Brough, will be organising everything to run like clockwork and all the Funky Fish Crew will be on board that day. We usually finish the shift off with a round of slushy cocktails. Wish us luck!"

Cave Street's very good, but I've only been to East Park chippy once and it was pretty mediocre.

When I worked on Fish Dock it was absolutely manic Easter week. We worked from 6am til midnight every night and with me driving the wagon I was always last home after dropping people off. It was our best week for wages, overtime and bonuses.

Have haddock, will travel. 50 years ago first meal in Canada here. Gold mine - early retirement beckoned.

5 minutes walk away from home in opposite direction.

More chippies than hotels in Tranna !<cheers> Tetley's on tap.

I tried Cave Street once, thought the chips were a bit greasy and soggy. Even in pictures they look a bit like that.

Wife’s from Sheffield, still cannot believe the Good Friday fish thing here - fed up of me driving round for an hour to find one with a small enough queue. She knows she’s a landlubber so that’s why .

I had a McPlant burger yesterday. It was bloody delicious and on the rare occasion I eat at McDonald’s, that’s what I’ll be having. Literally couldn’t taste the difference.

I've not had the Mcplant burger, but it wouldn't surprise me if it did taste like an original McDonald's, as those things taste like cattle feed anyway.
