I don’t think you remember how inconsistent Bowen was in his first season. He didn’t play every minute. He scored more goals yeah but he wasn’t the main man of the side to do so week in week out. Harry Wilson, Abel, Campbell, Grosicki. That team scored 70 goals which is double what this team has. I’m not making excuses you’re just ignoring context when comparing the 2. Let’s see how he fairs next season when better players are around him. Then it’s fair to compare them both.
I do remember how inconsistent he was, but KLP's played 100 games for us now and after 100 games Bowen was streets in front. In that first season Bowen was the main man, we lost Abel in August for most the year, Wilson didn't sign till Jan deadline day ish and FC struggled for fitness and only got 6 goals. That was also Bowen first season of any kind in senior football, this is KLP's third but 2.5 really and I feel he should be further along in his development by now. He's played a lot of football
He’s played too much football if anything. That season when Bowen was struggling for form, post christmas for example we had the ability to take him out the side. We simply cannot do that with KLP given the quality in our squad. Bowen had plenty of holes in his game but worked on them year on year. KLP can do the same, has done throughout the season. We shouldn’t be snatching anyones hands off in summer unless it’s stupid money. He’s developed in much different circumstances to Bowen, worse players around him and at a worse level. Bowen is obviously better im not disputing it but until he plays in a side capable of scoring 70 goals in a season not 36 you can compare them on output. I’m not disagreeing with you at all just trying to add context that I think is relevant to the lad and his development compared to Bowen’s.
The biggest difference with Bowen is how much the lad improved and how hard he worked on the training ground. The improvement in his right foot was great to see along with his crossing ability. I've not seen that from Keano. He is improving but not at the same rate. You're never going to get a like for like comparison, football doesn't work like that. If Keano took more chances, we'd have more points and be higher up the league. Keano's development has actually been a lot easier than Bowen's who moved half way across the country at a young age to come to us and then didn't get a sniff until we got relegated. Keane is a local lad, who's never had to move and been given first time action a lot easier. It's Bowen's effort and work ethic why he's flying at the minute and keeps improving, I just haven't seen that from KLP. He seems to believe his own hype and be the first one to have a moan.
Your last paragraph sums up KLP. He has potential, but is not as keen to develop is as Bowen was. If he stays with us and ATM it's looking likely, then next season will determine his future imo, if he embraces playing and training with better players and uses this to push on and improve then he'll do just that. If he doesn't then he'll stay around the middle of the championship.
I agree, I can't see why anyone would spend daft money on him yet. He needs to step it up but I also agree with what NT said that we need the ability to drop him which we don't really have. He knows he's starting and he knows he'll play the 90 mins no matter how he plays. I thought he was quiet yesterday as he was against Boro too and should've been pulled in both if we had options. I think that the youngster with the highest potential is Greaves. Defenders mature later but on paper he has everything and he's improved a tonne this season after struggling initially. He's beginning to look quite imperious now. I don't think he's quite ready to move up yet but as long as he keeps improving and once he develops physically he'll be a monster
I agree, if he has a good season next year, a left footed young english centre half, we’d be able to name our price.
I agree with this, he is pretty much undroppable, Shota pretty much summed it up after Boro as he’s the player with the edge to create something out of nothing. Longman has a bit of it too. Hopefully with the correct additions and some good competition we’ll see him go to higher levels. If not I’m more then happy to see him keep on developing slowly with us
Not surprising at all, if he cut out his moment where all our arses fall out once a game, he’s already a very good centre half at this level. It just happens a tad too often for me at the minute for a premier league team to spend decent money on him. He held his own very well against Ikepazu yesterday won all his aerial duels im pretty sure.
Yep, however that particular opinion borders on insane. George has been absolutely pivotal from the moment he came back from injury.
We love to talk our players down these days. Robertson was **** and couldn't cross according to most on here. Bowen got plenty of stick in his last season here whenever we lost a game. Now KLP is overrated. Give the kid a chance. He's obviously got bags of talent, he works hard for the team and he's played a big part in dragging us to safety this season. In a decent team he'll surely improve further. He clearly belongs in the PL long term, and it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see him play for the England senior team eventually. If he does that while playing for someone else, people on here will moan that he was never recognised while playing for us, even though they're talking him down now.
Personality i never rated Robertson or maguire,.....but what do i know!!!!!!......that's why I'm a brickie and not a football manager!!!!!
Robertson was always an outstanding ‘attacking full back’ where as Maguire was an outstanding player for City but not consistent enough to be Man Utd of England quality.
He’s been absolutely woeful this season and should be nowhere near the England squad for Qatar. He’ll still get picked though.
That’s because he’s never let England down and we’re a better team with him in it, regardless of his club form.
It's not just Maguire in that ManUre team who's underperformed this year. Singling him out as a scapegoat for what seems to be as much a team/club issue seems a bit harsh.
