Brilliant! A friend recommended the number to me all those years ago, and I still play it regularly in the car.

 

So nostalgic for me. I played it every night on a juke box , sipping my wine in Caen, Normandy, during the student/worker revolution of 1968.

 

Yes, understand that, as I am the same with jazz piano. One of my top favourites is "I'll Remember April" by the Erroll Garner trio. This was the opening piece in the now celebrated "Concert By The Sea" which took place in September, 1955, at the Sunset School, Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. By 1958 this concert album had sold over a million dollars retail (a lot of money in those days). His own composition "Misty" is also very special for me. Play them both frequently. Erroll died at far too young an age in 1977 at the age of 55.

 

No I haven't, Resurgam, and I certainly have missed listening to a great jazz pianist. The Burghausen International Jazz Festival takes place every Spring (March) in a small town not far from Munich, and lasts for one week. It was started in 1970 and has never missed a beat with the exception of 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. Just about every jazz musician of note from all over the world has at some time or other performed in the Burghausen jazz week. Usually, I never miss listening to the concerts throughout the week, and I do try not to. The Jacques Loussier trio performed there in 2007 and for some reason I missed it.

Have already listened to a few items from a Bach mix, and the guy was a genius IMHO. Have a lot to listen to over the next few days, so I'll come back later with my favourite pieces from the trio.

Thanks again for this, much appreciated. By the way, am pleased to say that the Burghausen International Jazz week has started-up again, after the 2020/2021 shut-down.

 

Had a great time listening to the Jacques Loussier trio's jazz interpretations of Bach's music. My favourite is Loussier's renderings of Bach's "Toccata And Fugue in D Minor". It would be unfair not to mention Loussier's colleagues in the trio, Vincent Charbonnier on Bass, and André Arpino, Percussion. Their accompaniments to the piano playing and jazz interpretations of Jacques Loussier are just perfect.

Ah yes, Resurgam, Maynard I do know! He was a French-Canadian from Quebec. Will play those two pieces tomorrow. That will bring back some old memories! Think Maynard played for the Stan Kenton band at one time?

Fine rendering of Ennio Morricone's classic film music by Rolf Ganter on the Wersi organ. I am amazed at what this Wersi instrument can do, especially, at the touch of a button, making it sound like a soprano human voice singing. Quite extraordinary.

 

I love watching (no pun intended) stuff like this. I bought myself a beginners guide book on watch repair, a tool kit and a couple of knackered watches off ebay to give it a try myself. Its definitely an art form

 

"The Repair Shop" guys do a remarkable job too. That "Steve" fellow (a watchmaker, I believe, by profession) is a flipping genius, in fact all of the lads and lasses on this show are true experts in their respective trades/professions. Love this programme, one of my favourites.
