Crawley Town manager John Yems is being investigated by Football Association. Crawley’s owners, investment group WAGMI United have since suspended Yems. The allegations against Yems, which he denies, include: Presiding over segregated changing facilities with two dressing rooms at the training ground which, although not official policy, was reinforced by comments to white players such as, ‘Don’t change in the black boys’ room’. Frequently referring to a number of the squad’s players from Asian backgrounds as ‘terrorists, suicide bombers and curry munchers’. Calling one youth-team player a ‘suicide bomber’ on a regular basis and telling him not to get the train home wearing a backpack because fellow passengers would think he intended to blow it up. Routinely using the n-word and referring to one black player as a ‘Zulu warrior’. Calling a young player of Cypriot extraction a ‘Greek bobble-head’ and mocking Greek music. Banishing two players with ethnic minority backgrounds from training with the first team without explanation. Causing such resentment in the squad that seven players complained to the PFA last month, with at least one seeking counselling as a result of the damage the manager did to his mental health. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/s...ems-accused-enforcing-racial-segregation.html
He gets lauded for his wacky post-match interviews. But I always thought he sounded like a thick **** - glad to be proved right, if that charge sheet is correct.
Those post-match interviews always made him sound like a massive thundercunt. So this is absolutely no surprise. What a piece of ****.
If he answers the questions on the allegations in a similar manner to his match interviews, he's going to be even further screwed. I got the impression he wanted to be a character type celeb, but didn't have the charm or wit.
I think the club as a whole should be very concerned, as they must take their share of the responsibility for allowing it to occur over what appears to be an extended period of time.
How the hell did he get chance to build up a list of accusations like that? I get I might be being naive, but I'd have thought just a couple would have seen him sacked.
They were taken over early last month, the previous ownership has to take a lot of responsibility for letting a dinosaur like that stay at the club for the past 3 years.
From the link in the OP. I do hope they didn't know what the allegations were at that time. "Crawley have lost all three of their matches since Yems was suspended and the manager remains popular with fans, who chanted ‘We want our Yems back’ during Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat by Leyton Orient. "
It’s not even like it’s a one-off (still inexcusable). It sounds like prolonged racial abuse of his players for years. Like DMD said, higher-ups are also responsible for allowing it to go on for so long.
Racism (and misogyny and homophobia) have never really gone away, just driven underground. I’d like to see it permanently buried but human nature being what it is I think there will always be a small core of people who, for whatever psychological reason, are ****s. I’m heartened that Yems is being universally called out here, but the fact that the fans are still supporting him shows there are plenty of people that tolerate those kind of views. The kind of people that say “you can’t say that (out loud)” rather than “you’re totally out of order”.
