Thought Bailey Wright was an absolute rock tonight. Didn't lose a single challenge and covered his mates' backs a few times. Absolutely immense
Was great to see 09 make a beeline to give Roberts a hug and encouragement twice in the second half when he went close to scoring. And I'd also like to admit that I was wrong about Evans, tonight was a real captains performance
As for the Wednesday fans who hit me and people around me with coins, hope you crash your ****ing cars on the way home
There was few of them behind the Beacon when I was walking up past the park and ride who were being absolute tools. I hope they got twatted.
All the "bannan'' talk made it sound like William Wallace was headed back your way. Imagine my surprise when I queried my monitor, "Who's the hobbit? - and it turned out to be non-other than...
I hold my hands up aswell about Evans. Onien needs dropping though tbf, Matete as young as he is is a level above
Personally i think Broadhead was fit tonight but he wasnt picked because itd be impossible for him to play 2 games in 4 days so we're saving him for the 2nd half on Monday where he will hopefully be like a coiled spring. On a side note the fact we only have 2 strikers, 1 RB who is a young kid from Ireland and only one LB in Cirkin who is in his first full season playing proper mens football is pretty shameful really
Onions was very good last night, as were most of the team, who all played for each other (and us), but some people just feel the need to berate someone, which is, presumably, a deliberate attempt to destroy confidence Why would anyone get pleasure out of that when they could enjoy what was a very good victory
It's mad isn't it. I thought some of ONiens passing was poor last night but the rest of his game was spot on. Stopped their midfield playing through. Every man played their part.
O9s job tonight was to stop Bannan. Did an excellent job although understandably tired towards the end.
Thought he managed being on a yellow well too considering he was having to be physical throughout. He is reliable with that to be fair, he very rarely gets a second yellow.
Excellent crowd, fan support and atmosphere was superb, keeping a clean sheet a bonus. Would have been nice to get the 2nd, which we probably deserved but they will be a bit more attack minded at home which should benefit us. Had a cheeky little pint with Chris Turner before the match in the Hilton (didnt give me the winning tkt tho the tw*t).
please log in to view this image BBC’s write-up: These two heavyweights find themselves stuck in the third tier with just one route left to escape, via the play-offs, and there was plenty of anticipation, anxiety and expectation around the Stadium of Light on and off the pitch. That tension was tangible with 44,742 in the stands - a record English Football League play-off attendance at any level - although the home side eased some nerves once Stewart struck at the end of a cagey opening half. Pritchard was the pivot on which most of the Wearsiders' best work materialised, dropping deep to link midfield and attack, while Patrick Roberts, Jack Clarke and Lynden Gooch provided width to keep the game stretched. In the absence of the in-form Nathan Broadhead, Stewart carried the main threat and his goal was a perfect reward for his graft up top. However, with a second leg at an equally febrile Hillsborough still to come, the Scot's late miss and a glut of a spurned chances from Dennis Cirkin and Roberts midway through the second half might prove costly. With a solid shape, and with Sunderland enjoying most of the possession after a frenetic start, it seemed as though Darren Moore's Wednesday might have set up to come away without defeat rather than chase a lead. Stewart's goal changed that plan and forced them to attack more readily, but their chief creator Barry Bannan was anonymous for large parts as Wednesday failed to bring him into play. When he did touch the ball, he was immediately smothered by Sunderland markers. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/61286452
Problem is mate a lot of people don't understand the game, I said it before you only realise how much you miss o'nien when he's not in the team. They supposedly have the best midfielder in the league, last night he was poor and I think a lot of credit for that lies with o'nien. He does the **** jobs, the closing down, breaking up play, it's not the pretty stuff but its affective, that was his job last night an I thought he did it well. I think without him their midfield would have had a lot more control of the game. As I say lots of people don't pick up on it as its not the fancy stuff and so much of his work is done of the ball, the amount of times last night he positioned himself between 2 players when their keeper had the ball which prevented easy balls out and when they played the out like that it puts them under pressure. That's part of his job that people don't pick up on
